Posted about 4 years ago Hey all I was wondering if anyone knows of any kind of agency or anything LE related that has part-time summer jobs. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Call or go into the station, emails are not taken as serious inquiries a lot of times, especially to the chief. Call the training bureau or go in to talk to them. They may have an internship or a non-sworn position such as a service tecnician or something. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Thanks amsgator. Another question about that then. How should I go about it? Like who should I talk to and ask for when I go in? I don't want to look clueless when I go in. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Whatever you do, DO NOT work as a mall security cop. You will probably regret it one day, when you do get a job as a LEO and look back at what you did.
When you go in to talk with someone at your local agency, act confident, but not cocky. An internship at a decent sized agency will look great on your resume. Just ask questions when you go in to talk. We have all been in your shoes and were worried about what to say and do. So just remember that the Sgt, Lt, Captain or whoever you talk to was in your shoes one day. |

I'd probably ask for the training Sergeant or training LT. You could also try their Human Resources Division and let them know what you are wanting to do. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Try your state parks. A lot of times they hire part time help in the summer to help patrol. They do that here in NY "People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. " |

| Posted about 4 years ago OO that would work out well for me too because 1 is very closeby. Are the patrolers considered LEO's or Security Guards? And nccop78 can you tell me what would I regret about being a security guard?
And once again thanks for all the replies guys. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Bogman, another idea would be to talk with one of your CJ professors. They usually can steer you towards agencies that are looking for summer help or interns. My angency, it seems, almost always has an intern or two. With two universities and a community college in my jurisdiction we ge frequent requests. Just be ready to do some really boring stuff that will look good on a resume. Oh, there is really nothing wrong with mall security, it's a job many LEOs once did.

| Posted about 4 years ago Some malls have LEOs working alongside mall security guards so that would give you a chance to get to know some LEOs and learn about the department they work for. Being a hospital security guard wouldn't be bad either, especially if you're allowed to carry all the duty gears, ASP, pepper spray, handcuffs and Taser minus a firearm of course. http://www.iamsorryivotedforobama.com/ How's that HOPE and CHANGE working out for you? What would you do for a Klondike bar? |

bogman359- Contact the Ocean City Maryland Police Department; they for years have had a "part time police officer" program for criminal justice students. I haven't vacationed there in years, but I think I'm safe in saying the program probably still exists. Oops answered my own question; here is the link to their website for the "seasonal police officer program." http://www.ocpdmd.com/seasonal.html In the eyes of a speechless animal there are words only the wise can understand. |
