I know we have inherant risks by doing our Jobs... EVERYONE should know the possibilities, but we can cut some of our deaths by figuring out how to overcome the traffic related deaths and get officers in better phisical health.

One of the biggest things i have seen over the years is a lack of hand to hand skills, in most of the videos of officers being attacked by an unarmed suspect the officer responds in a panic, usually reaching for his tool belt instead of bringing his hands to guard, then striking back. When a suspect throws a punch at close range at an officer the officer does NOT need to bring his hand/s down to his waist first. When i attended the academy i asked the PT instructors why we didn't do more boxing, his response was too little time and they had a few law suits to get through before they could bring it back, Yes the academy was sued over a puss that got his nose broke a few classes behind me so we lost out on the hand to hand skills, lucky for me i had taken boxing when i was younger then went into kick boxing.
