Posted 7 months ago I just bought a 8 week old full blood pit bull from a respectable breeder in my area. My question is at what age should I start training him and what is the best advice on how, when where etc to train and what to start with? All I want to train is the basics such as sit, stay bark ( no attack since pits already have a bad name) down etc. Any help would be great. The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in war!!!

| Posted 7 months ago 10 weeks certainly isn't too early for just obediance and "good citizenship". Just remember, puppies have the attention span of a gnat. Don't push it, that only confuses and frustrates them. Nothing but positive reinforcement. A treat, vocal and physical praise. Beyond fatigue lies compensatory hypertrophy |

So true..........as they get a get older, a longer training period will help, but, they are babies........even pit bulls, they look at you then chase the fly that just flew by! Good luck, and never believe an old dog cannot learn new tricks.........they are always interested in what you want. I don't give food, but, lots of vocal ( they love high happy voices) and physical praise.........and mine (for the most part) are really well trained......unless there is a cooked chicken on the counter! Just kidding! "You are part of the night, just like me. We're not afraid of the dark--we come alive in it...we're thrilled by it." GUN CONTROL.......means Hitting your target..... A person who performs good Karma (deeds) is always held in high esteem. |

| Posted 4 months ago Pit Bulls are teriffic dogs, I've had several of them. Start training right away - -for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. Remember to actively socialize your dog early and often. Get him around other people and other animals as much as possible. |

| Posted 4 months ago Try to find breed specific information regarding your new pet's behavioral and temperment issues. The breeder may be very helpful in finding useful publications. As always there are wonderful dog/handler's or trainers for hire if you are unfamiliar with dog training techniques. Your breeder may be able to give you some names of persons or agencies. Most of all, keep in mind you speak english and your dog doesn't. Both of you will be learning a foreign language so patience is definately key. Good luck and keep us updated on how you are both doing during your training! |

| Posted 4 months ago 10 weeks is about right, just remember he's a puppy and just like a child all they wanna do is play, use this to your advantage, make it a game, give him lots of praise when he does something right and he'll wanna keep doing it. Also Patience is a virtue, if you find yourself getting aggrivated cause he's not doing what you want him to walk away, take a break cool off and try again later.
