For veteran points the various parts of NYC all follow the standard 5 - Uninjured 10 - Injured. That is pretty standard thought the entire state actually, I don't know of any place that does differently (I live in NYS and was looking all around for information.)

Although the pay is low it is really good. As an auxiliary officer I see the calls they go on and it can get crazy. They do give vet points and is one of the best depts. in NYC. I'm also considering but the pay is making me look the other way. Oh and yeah Mr. nypd LT. is very negative.....

NYC is a great place to work. Yes, there are some issues with the pay and politics. That being said, there is really no place in the country to work where you have the opportunities that an NYPD officers has. Besides patrol, there are hundreds of different units within the NYPD, which of which you receive specialized training for when joining.

Additionally, the opportunity for promotions exists and because of the size of the Department, the promotion exams are given often.

There are a lot of negatives, the starting pay being the biggest one to get over, but it is a great job.

NYPDLT might have earned the right to give a negative opinion. funny how the ones that are not cops like to give out the opinions about being a cop. the best thing about asking an officer his opinion , you get it good and bad. nycaux, let the cops answer cop question. sit back and try to learn something.

Once again ODIN you are stupid. Funny for a guy who is not an LEO he has alot of shit to say. And Navydennis I rather do it for free than the shitty pay. I make way more in the job I have now.

as a retired member of the nypd, i can definately state there are some negatives , not the least of them being the low pay. there is a political climate that is very negative towards the police here. not to mention how the rank and file cops are treated by their own dept. (the brass). add to that the fact that cops are being killed like flies lately. still, there is the promotional opportunities and numerous specialized units in the dept. i can see why there would be an interest by some to join the dept.

you are very right ODIN. There are some officers my dad know who have gone to other departments and love it becuase they knew everything. But others did not know the negative info and went into it blind.

navydennis..............Here are the positives: You'll see more in a week than most see in their life, you work with great guys/girls who will be your friends for life, you will have excellent promotional opportunities, you can retire after twenty years, and there are many specialized units within the department that you can apply for.

Negatives......$25,000 starting pay, no support from the public, no support from the mayor, no support from the Police Commissioner, experienced people are retiring by the thousands, pressure to meet ticket/arrest quotas, and you have the unfortunate opportunity to work with a certain arrogant, uneducated aux officer, who was unable to pass the NYPD written exam which most third graders can pass with the greatest of ease !

navydennis, if you have any questions just send me a message.

NycAux...........Is it that time of the month again, sweethaert?

I'd vote for the guy. Along with Rudy for president. I'll follow that man into a burning building.
