Many folks don't realize it, but FAS, or Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, is a serious desease which goes widley unnoticed by many. Some who are aware of, feel the child is an outcast to society because the syndrome was brought to the child during pregnancy. My daughter, Mercy, nearly fell victim to this illness. By Gods Grace and Mercy alone, she has been FAS free. Mom was intoxicated the entire 7 months of prgnancy, and was the reason she was 2 months premature. Mercy, again by Gods loving grace, was not affected. However, she is now at an increased risk for addiction. Mom now lives in Fargo and will hopefully remain sober, but a friend of our family was not so fortunate. Her son was diagnosed with FAS soon after she adopted him. The desease has affcted his central nervous system, facial characteristics and learning capabilities. NEVER EVER Blame the child for this. They need all the love and support they can get. It is an illness that will cause them emotional pain, not only in school, but from the general public as well. Just thought as cops, we should be informed so we can offer the support the families and the children of FAS really need without the ridicule which I have seen first hand.

Thanks
