I do a lot of ride alongs, and for the info that i am putting in here i will not state where. I ride with people that i know, and they tell me that if they get in a foot pursuit to stay with the car...im sorry but i am military and we are all about team work, plus i have gone through Military police classes so i am not numb to what to do....so i was riding with someone we pulled someone over for a minor TV running a stop sign well the guy got out and ran, the office and myself both gave chase. I talked the guy and helped the officer cuff him.

If i had done what he said and stayed in the car how do i know that nothing would happen to the officer, and if something did how could i look at myself.

on the other had i have been shown how to take out the shotgun and use it if stuff goes down! So what is the differance.

I also have my CCW but they won't let me carry on the ride along but they will show me how to take the shotgun out and use it?! does that make sense? i can see a little bit of sense in it but not a lot!

Wait, are you saying you had/have MP training and then did the ride along? And you are not an officer (civilan world) but go on ride alongs? Just need some clarification.

Hey MghtyQuinn...we dont want you packing for a couple reasons. Primarily because of insurance issues and training. Carrying your weapon while on a ride a long can present some serious issues. One of them being losing your weapon during a struggle or someone taking it from you. Or you pulling it for the wrong reason and causing a shit storm of catastrophic proportions. It falls in the "you dont know the policy of the department" catagory. Another reason is training like I mentioned. I dont know who trained you or how you qualified. Granted there are stringent guidelines for obtaining a CCW, however there are stricter requirements for agencies to qualify. Also, with a shotgun its less compicated. You see the officer in trouble, grab the shotgun, point aqnd shoot the bad guy. There isnt as many issues. I knwo I am being a little vague, however I hope I have shed a little light on the topic.

are you trying to get the officer and his department in trouble. you posted that you are not going to follow the police officers direction and are allready a rouge element. there are many reasons to stay with the vehicle but if you are not prepard to do what you are instructed you are a liability. it doesnt get any clearer. if you cant do as instructed now you will become someones problem later.

I agree with both of you and thank you, BUT if someone is going to attack that officer and i have to stay with the car and just watch, to me that is obserd i know the liability and all that....i didn't get introuble when i did what i did in fact everyone that showed up thanked me. especially the officer that i was riding with.

i completely understand the gun issue now thank you, and ODIN i do follow rules, i have been in the military for 4 years i know how to follow rules, i also know that sometimes you have to do something that you might have explain later to help someone out at that time.

i will do what i am instructed #1 cause i am eager to keep riding #2 because if i don't i could jeperdise lives.

let me ask you this if you were doing a ridealong and the cop got into it with some guy that you thought was going to kick his a$$ and you knew that the 2nd unit was bout 3 min away.....what would you do!

first off was the officer losing the fight. just running from us is dose not mean the suspect will attack us. i dont think anybody would stand by and watch the officer get hurt, however one mistake from you could shut down the ride along program. in your statement you said the officer told you stay by the car, but you didnt. ride along programs are a good idea for everyone but can become a catch 22. you can always ask what if. if he needed assitance because he was being beaten is one thing, but staying by the patrol unit can also assist the officer.
