The hardest thing about being LEO for me is I have children. I see the uglyness in the world and that has made me very protective of my children, almost to much. I have to tell myself all the time that I need to let go a little, but the thought of something happening to them just brings me back to be overprotective.

although I am not LEO, I too have seen the ugliness in the people and places around me. I am almost too over protective of my family myself but its because of what I see in everyday life. Go to the local mall or Walmart for that matter and watch how many children walk around by themselves with their parents out of "eyesight". That scares the crap out of me seeing that. Any sick minded person would have a field day in places like that. So to answer your question from my perspective, the hardest part about doing my line of work is dealing with the difficult people. You know what I am talking about, the ones who seem to be born naturally stupid and you just wanna throw a monkey wrench at 'em.
Another reason, its trying to help people that dont wanna be helped. I'll get called to a verbal or sometimes physical domestic call and when I get there, niether one wanna be helped and you have to basically stand there with my thumb up my ass and asking myself "why am I here helping this situation when they dont want the help". Dont get me wrong, I get involved with it, but sometimes, theres just nothing you can do but to go with it.
I think my third and final reason...for now.....is that, yes its hard but in the end, it makes you a better and stronger person. The goal is to make sure you go home at the end of your shift.
My two cents worth....
