here in California, when a Security Officer effects an arrest, we dont have to read them thier rights. LEO have to read them their rights. Heres my point.....you're walking your beat or standing your post and you see a guy beat the crap out of someone, knocking him out cold. Well in California, thats a felony commited in your presense and you are justified in effecting that arrest. So, you hook the scumbag up and he rants and raves that..."did you see that shit, I knocked that mofo out cold man, that shit was awesome".
Now the LEO arrives...he takes custody of the subject and begins to ask him some questions. The answer may come out like this..."awwe hell no officer, I was over there on my balcony drinking my brewsky with my homies man, I didnt do shit man". And then his Miranda Rights are read to him, if that. But guess what, the guy just admitted guilt in your presense and to YOU and it will hold in court. Simply tell the arresting LEO that he had stated this and that.
Now my point here again...had the officer asked the subject, did you do it or not...he would be in violation of his rights to an attorney. We dont have to worry about that luxury and its one I have always loved.
So yes, there are differences in our line of work BUT simillair in ways. I will state again, its all about how you hold yourself up wether it just BS'ing with the LEO or on an actual call when he is in need of your assistance. I recall a night at work when I was hooking up a 647F. A deputy was actually there watching me hook the guy up. It got fun when the drunk said to the deputy..."who the fuck are you" The duputy just kindly looked at me and asked....he ASKED...me if he could take over. I said "sure if you're willing to take him into custody". He did so but the point was, he saw me doing my job in a professional manner to the point until it was time for LEO to take over and take the drunk into custody. The man was still in MY custody when he used profanity towards the deputy, so it was off of his hands.
The guy was being beligarant and cussing, swearing up and down and when he saw the deputy next to me, thats when he spouted off to the deputy. Once the deputy took custody, he basically couldnt say he didnt do all that shit because he admitted to guilt while in MY custody. Hope that all makes sense.

So what I am trying to say here is that, we as Security Officers are "somewhat" covered by a umbrella but we arent. That example I gave is something we have over law enforcement. If I have a guy in custody and he is spouting out the mouth saying he did it and was glad he did it, all I have to do is pass that that on and it will stick when he is booked.

ODIN, you should really lighten up man, we have just as hard a job as you do. If you dont think my life is on the line everyday, come patrol the indian reservation where I work and lets see what you'll say afterwards. I dont carry a gun for show, I carry it because its a tool for me to use while on the job. My P&P's authorize me to use deadly force in the wake of a given situation should deadly force be rendered. One of my cashier personel gets robbed and he decided to pop her one in the chest...then my authority to use deadly force is authorized. Why? You should know the answer to that.
So please do us a favor....quit bashing SO's because we are here on this site. My life is on the line as soon as my uniform is put on and the shit and crap I gotta deal with that YOU deal with, is all under one roof. I come here to this site seeking advise and looking for how others deal with certain situations. Dont need you calling every SO a "wannabee" I am sure in one time of your "wannabee" career, that you were called names you didnt like...rent-a-cop, security guard, wannabee police...crap like that. Just chill man, we deserve some respect too.
Here let me tell you a true fact. This statement was given by a noted local doctor here in San Diego at one of our local Sharps-Reesely Hospitals. This noted doctor said that if you ever have a heart attack, you want to be at such "named" casino. He said and I will qoute it...he said "your life expectancy goes up 40-60% if you have a heart attack at ****** Casino because the officers there are well trained and they have their own fire department and helo pad. You will almost certainly be gaurenteed a chance at living longer because their officers are top notch". Can you say that about yourself ODIN??
I take my job seriously and with utmost pride knowing that. In the four years I have worked there, we've only lost two of the six people who went down with a sudden cardiac arrest. We were'nt able to bring them back with the AED we keep on site.One we did, but he ended up passing while in route to the hospital. We get letters of appreciation from the families we help save or tried to save almost everyday. Do you?

no i never received a letter from people i helped im just a lowly cop. you guys are the important ones keep saveing the world. you guys should start a thread "ask a security guard, and have it fall under the heading" general security guard knowledge. and start a hidden camera show that follows the dangerous world of report writing.

i have no problem with you i have a problem with those that havent put in the time as a cop, that thinks security is similar to police. i have been both and it is quite different.i have no respect for anyone that has not been a cop, but thinks they know what its like. i wouldnt comment on the job of a security guard unless i had been one.

i have been to o.k, wasnt impressed, i have to ask again why dosent the badass security guards start a blog or web site for badass security guards and friends, why try to convince others and cops that we have the same job...have you been a cop..because i have been both. i have walked in both shoes and can honestly say that they are not even close, but that might just be a reginoal thing.
