The first citation I gave in the little town that I first started at was interesting.  I pulled a vehicle over for doing 50 in a 35.  The female driver does not speak a lick of english and I have to play translate through her kids...end up citing her for speed and no insurance....the kids kept giggling as I spoke to them and they translated for mom...

Just your luck!! LOL That would be hard to deal with someone who doesn't speak English.  I'm about to get into a whole different subject here, but if you are gonna live in the US, you need to learn how to speak English! I'll shut up now, sorry.

I wrote my first citation to a lady that "California stopped" and rolled through a stop sign. That was in 1995 on the South Post of the Yongsan Army Base, Seoul, South Korea.

Is it a bad sign that I don't remember the first ticket I wrote?

It was a cool night on the graveyard shift.  I had only been out of the academy a week and was with Al, a six year veteran. He was the quiet type and spoke with a soft voice.  During the first hour he was preaching about the job and some of the bible as he was a deacon in the church. I was driving south on a two lane, one way street and the light ahead was green.  The cross street was also one way from our left but had three lanes. Vehicles  were stopped in the first and second lanes of the cross street.   As I got in front of the second lane a car came into the intersection in the third lane.   I stepped on the gas and swerved to the right then back to the left when the front end hit the very large dip in the left side of the road. I hit the brakes and realized the rear end was swinging around in a 180.  The cruiser stopped with the biggest utility pole I had ever seen, sitting against Al's door. (no damage, just physically against the door.)  The violator car pulled across the intersection and I moved in behind it.  Al's eyes still were not back to normal.  I walked up to the car to write my first traffic summons and asked the lady for her license and registration.  While she was trying to find it in her purse I asked why she almost hit us.  She told me her life was a shambles and she just did not see the light.  I asked her to explain.  It seems that a week earlier her husband was killed by a drunk driver while he was putting gas into the rear filler of another persons car. ( I recalled the officers talking about that firery crash.) Her youngest son killed himself just after he dad was killed,  She went on to explain that her oldest son had just been arrested for assaulting a guy with a pipe and was in our lock-up. (I heard that call go out  prior to lineup)   She drove 28 miles to the magistrates office to get her son but had forgotten her checkbook.  She was totally upset and decided to take a different way home.  Just prior to the intersection her daughter, 14 years of age, told her mother, while mom was driving, that she was pregnant.   I looked at the girl and she looked like she was about ten, and had a very embarrassed face.  I gave the lady her license and registration back and told her that she had had enough problems for a while.   I got back into the cruiser and Al's eyes were normal by then.  He got really mad that I did not write her. After all, she almost hit us and he almost ate a utility pole!  I explained the story to him, and his reply was that I did a good deed and God would reward me for it.    I retired after 33 years of service on the street, including the riot summers of 1968 and 1969 and the many demonstrations of the '70's, with no extra holes in my person and never having to take anyone's life.                                       Perhaps he did.

That would be tough. I have people who will start talking to me at spanish at one of my jobs, all the time. I guess I look like I should be able to understand them, but I am with Suzanne here... if you are here, then at least learn enough to get by.

And what's up with the "california stop" reference, mpd?! LOL! I think we should change it to the "Virginia stop"... cause I am pretty sure I saw someone do it there, too!!

First ticket..it was a 55 in a 35 speed ticket. A Parolee and his wife. I knew the parolee from working in the county jail, he made some comment like wow you are on the streets...and I told him.."yeah you too". No problems gave his wife the ticket and was on my way.

MY FIRST TICKET WAS QUITE EVENTFUL FOR ME. STOPPED A LADY FOR SPEEDING I THINK IT WAS 42 IN A 25. BACK  WHEN I STARTED, THE SUPPLY OFFICER WENT INTO THE SUPPLY CLOSET AND GOT YOU HAND ME DOWN UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT UNLIKE TODAY WHEN ROOKIES GET ALL NEW EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS. I WAS ALREADY NERVOUS TO BEGIN WITH SINCE IT WAS MY FIRST TRAFFIC STOP. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND STARTED WALKING UP TO TALK TO THE DRIVER. I FELT SOMETHING HIT ME IN THE SIDE OF THE LEG. I LOOK DOWN TO FIND THAT THE DELAPITADED RADIO HOLDER I HAD BEEN ISSUED HAD JUST BROKE AND MY RADIO WAS SWINGING FREELY ALONG MY LEG. I GRABBED MY RADIO AND STUCK IT IN MY BACK POCKET SO THAT I COULD FINISH THE TRAFFIC STOP. MY TRAINING OFFICER WAS LAUGHING AT  ME WHICH DID NOT MAKE MATTERS ANY BETTER. I WROTE THE TICKET AND WALKED BACK UP TO THE VEHICLE. I WAS SO SHOOK UP BY THIS POINT, I COULD BARELY EXPLAIN THE CITATION TO THE DRIVER. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT SHE WAS THINKING.

That's pretty good... me?  Simpsonville, SC doing 82 in a 60; this was October of 2008.  The Officer was awesome!  He reduced it to a 69 in a 60.  God was with me that day!  And that Officer?  I couldn't thank him enough!

I used to drive I-85 on my way up to Virginia.  There's a really interesting place of I-85 in South Carolina.  I want to say it's called South Of The Border.  You can exit off and eat/shop there.  Kind of interesting.
