Does anybody know of any academies in Georgia that you can pay your own way through?

Janet,

Call your local PD and colleges, i.e. community colleges.. GL

yea Clover is right, it is usually community colleges. Some may even require a 2 year degree, but thats not very common. Just remember that if you pay your way thorugh, you really cant have a job to support yourself for a few months. Good luck.

hey janet not sure what your question is really asking . are you thinking of becoming an officer or do you just want to be more abreast of policy and procedures ? there are different avenues to explore depending on which . if you are not interested in becoming an officer the community curriculum is your best route and your local p.d. can give you all the info on that , but if you are interested in becoming an officer then of course just take the civil service exam and start interviewing . either way , good luck

hey janet , if this is a serious committment on your part you want be letting anyone down whether you pass everything or not . being an officer for 21 years and a mother believe me it gets rough ,but i never had any doubts . sounds like you need a little confidence boost . think about it a little bit more , take a few ride-alongs with the dept. you're interested in . i assure you , you'll get nothing but honesty , we take our lives as officers seriously .

Hey Janet...isn't it possible to pay-through the academy that your husband went through? If that's the case, why not just go the same route again, although this time instead of being sent by the dept. pay to go. Just a thought.

not from what I'm told we live in Alabama thinking of moving to Georgia and in Alabama you have to be sent to the academy through a department but I would much rather pay my own way.

So Janet, are you going for it now too? That'd be pretty interesting (but cool) to have husband and wife going through the academy together.

Yeah well that would be pretty neat but we have 3 kids and one of us would have to go at a time but I was just wanting to know which ones I could pay my way through. My husband is a reserve for a little over a year and he loves it so I fighure my best bet is to start riding so I could get fimilar with things. My heart goes out to you officers cause being a police officer is hard work and not to mention dangerous.I just want to thank ya'll for the great work that you do.

hey janet , i'm an officer in al . i'm not sure of the costs of other states ,but i'm pretty sure that there is'nt a civilian academy (i.e. one in which you pay your own way ) . it's like this , take the civil service exam , after the exam you are put on a personell list , then the interviews start rolling in . you can also go to a dept. that you are interested in talk to their hiring coordinator and go from there . the dept . then hires you and put you through the academy . you are paid a salary while in the academy . you're considered a recruit and once completing the academy you're an officer . explain to me again why you want to pay for this training that you are to paid for ? anyway , think about it , the cost is not going to be cheap .
