Posted about 4 years ago I would like to work in the security field as a guard or officer. I would prefer to work in an armed position. Which companies have armed guards? Where should I apply? I am new to the field and I live in the central valley area in California. Thanks for any help. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Your best bet is to be an unarmed security (guard) officer first. You also need the training. Once you get some experience in Security then you might be able to become armed with a company.. There are a lot of companies out there that do not carry and some that do.. Good luck... | Posted about 4 years ago Thanks, as Im gathering more information I realize how low the pay scale is for an unarmed guard. My career goals are to become an LEO, however with the financial state of our economy its not going to be to soon. Security guard jobs do seem to have some flexible shifts, lending itself to my schooling schedule. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Your best bet -- at least here in Cali -- is to work for a small, reputable company. Try to avoid the Big Box companies like Securitas, Allied-Barton, Bayer, ABM, ACSS, etc. They all have extremely low standards and will hire anything that is still capable of breathing. If law enforcement is your goal, try the CHP. They're still hiring as we speak, even with the current economic climate. |

| Posted about 4 years ago Thanks for the advice. I will continue to look at some of the smaller security providers. Thanks for the chp suggestion, however I am 36 and past their hiring age. |
