Glock ... they just plain work under any conditions.  IMHO, they are easier to field strip and clean.

Huh? They're about the same to field strip (well, actually the XD is easier since you just lock it back instead of pulling it back about 1/2 an inch and pulling up the slide disassembly bars). And almost exactly the same to clean (well, actually the guide rod on the XD can be wiped down easier, but that about it).

What sort of conditions are you planning to subject your Glock to as a police officer? And how often are you planning to field strip it as a cop?

Conditions are dictated by the environment ... and you have to field strip it to clean it

So out of curiosity.....if and when you get comissioned in Texas as a peace officer, where are you looking to work environmentally where your Glock would be subjected to harsh environmental factors that would require it to be stripped and cleaned out in the field.  Im just trying to better understand the statement you made.

We can continue this in PM's if you like so as not to further detract from the OP's poll ... opinion was asked and opinion was given

Between the Glock and the Xd.  I have to go with the XD.  I like the feel of the gun in my hand.  Glocks I have fired are just akward for me to shoot.

I've owned both the G21 and the XD45.  I bought the Glock b/c I was considering a dept. that issued the 21.  The Glock performed flawlessly.  The dept. I joined allows officers to carry personally owned weapons on duty.  I sold the Glock as soon as I could and bought the XD.  The XD fits my hand MUCH better and comes quickly to a natural point of aim.  The XD shoots smoothly, accurately, and eats anything I feed it.  I would be willing to trust my life to either, but strongly prefer the XD.  Also a huge fan of SIG.

Bottom line, they both are without a doubt awesome firearms. I prefer XD(XDm) over glocks because of the feel in my hand. I mean let's be serious.... If you properly maintain any one of the 2 and are a trained individual in respects to actually firing the weapons, they will do the exact same thing, Which is hit what you aim it at right???

+1  XD

I have a pair of XD45's and love them!

I like the extra safety features of the XD series and the more natural grip Angle, similar to a 1911 design pistol.

I also like the very easy disassembly for cleaning and the reliability/durability of the pistol.

I prefer Glock only because i like the trigger much better, the Springfield trigger is smooth but mushy. I primarily shoot Glocks which is why I may prefer them (Dept. Issued).

I own an XD45 and two Glocks.

I am an XD man all the way....BUT glocks are great weapons as well....Ithe only thing I dont like about both weapons is that glocks only safety feature is located on the trigger (which is prone to accidently being discharged if snagged on something) and XD's lack of holsters (particuarly level 3 and tac lights/lasers)

Correction...the safety on the trigger is the only EXTERNAL safety on the Glock. The Glock pistols also have a drop safety and a firing pin safety.

I was 100% GLOCK on this one until I fired a freinds compact XD 40s&w. This gun was very comfortable to shoot and the percieved recoil was considerably less than with my GLOCK22 40s&w. This had me second guessing my GLOCK loyalty. I carry a Beretta92fs as a duty weapon due to constraints when working on a federal installation. I carry a GLOCK 26 for off duty concealed carry and I am very happy with this firearm. I am in the market for a tupperware 45ACP and it's probably gonna come down to which gun I can get a better deal on between the GLOCK and SpringfeildXD. Bottom line is that you cant go wrong with either of these guns and you can adjust to whichever grip angle you end up with.

I own both a Glock 22 and a Springfield XDM-40. I have carried both on Duty. I think the weapons BOTH have their place. I prefer carrying the XD, however; I carry the Glock. I carry it because it has been around for so long and it is so popular that the holster (SERPA Light Bearing Level 3) and other accessories that I prefer are all made to fit a Glock, and not an XD.  Both are great weapons though.

I've had a Glock 26 as a CCW and have had no problems with it.  I'd go with Glock.  There's no denying that Springfield is a fine producer however.

In the academy they issued glock 17 and 19 for firearms class. I shot pretty decent with it. One of my classmates had the xdm 9mm. I took it to the range and fired three rounds. After that i bought it from him and i open carry everyday with it. I actually qualified with the xdm in the academy. the recoil is alot better than the glock. it shoots anything and to me it seems to be a bit more accurate. It does suck that they don't have alot of holsters for it though. I like glocks but i prefer the xd line over them anyday. the safety on the backstrap and trigger are nice amenities also. Also guys, the xd was put through the same torture tests that glock was and it passed.

The only reason I have Glock 22  it issue weapon for PSO (DHS) job.  I will be buying a XD40M and .45 verse this spring.  Best thing to do is go to range shoot both go from there.  Also buy America Springfield

Also buy America Springfield

The Springfield Company is American owned but the XD is a Croation designed pistol. It is still produced in Karlovac, Croatia. The design has been around since 1991 and entered the U.S. market around 2000 as the HS200 in 9 mm. Then in 2002 Springfield Armory bought licensing rights and changed it to the XD and expanded it to include other calibers and models. If you want to buy American get an M&P.

Very true and those Croatians made a darn fine pistol.  I like what works and for me the XD works.

That should be the only reason you buy a pistol. It shouldn't matter what everyone thinks as long as it works for you.

What do I prefer?  Sig, but that's not what you want to hear.  I've owned both and both have performed perfectly.  The XD fits my hand better.  I miss my XD more than I miss my Glock, so I guess I prefer the XD.  I'd never feel under equiped with either if that's the real question.

I've had the XD .40 Service & Tactical models, as well as the XD .45 Tactical and liked them. The lack of available (at the time) duty gear was a downside, and one of the reasons I carry a Glock 22 RTF on duty. I shot the XD's well, and never had a problem with them. My new toy just arrived today, a Glock 21 SF RTF. Of course, now I need a Glock 36 SF for off duty carry, to replace the Glock 27 I carry now! You can never have too many guns, right? lol

This was not exactly a easy one to answer. If you had asked Glock or Hi-point, hands down Glock. But, when you ask Glock or Springfield thats a hard decision, I own a G22 and an XD .45 , both amazing guns. I chose Glock and my only reasoning behind that is because you can buy Glock parts practically anywhere. " Yes I would like $10 on pump 2, and how bout a laser grip and some spare mags".

It's funny that you mention Hi-Point because I actually just bought one about 3 months ago to see how bad they really are. To my suprise, it has been very reliable. I've got about 1500 rounds through it, and it has not had one malfunction. I have since given it to my son to use as his plinking gun at the range. He actually shoots it better than I can.

Now, as for the poll question; I am a HUGE GLOCK fan, so that should tell you my answer. Both the GLOCK and Springfield are very reliable guns, so you really can't go wrong with either one. Especially now that GLOCK has their most popular models coming out in the Gen4 version. Any complaints that people had about the GLOCK not fitting their hands right can now be laid to rest because all of the Gen4's have the adjustable backstraps for different sized hands. I've heard many people say that GLOCK fixed something that wasn't broke when they started coming out with the Gen4's, but I could not disagree any more. GLOCK PERFECTION was just made even better.
