I am just wondering if anyone here is currently or previously worked for Las Vegas Metro Police Department? if so, How do you like it? I just separated from the Air Force and wish to join LVMPD. How good is the pay compared to the cost of living? I have heard and read that LVMPD has a great reputation for being one of the best agencies, and really good fellowship between officers. I'm not from LV, but have friends there that I visit often, and I fell in love Vegas and not for the gambling reasons, I could care less about that. I really liked every Officer that I came in contact with. and they seemed to really love there job with Metro. How good is the promotion rates, is it difficult to promote? How hard is or what do I need to do ahead of time to get into a specialty job like SWAT or K-9? I have many more questions to ask but for now I will keep short.

Thank you in Advance
Jon.

Not from the LVMPD, but if you haven't checked out their website that's a great way to find out some info on a department. LVMPD employment

Hey Jon, i actually am stationed at Nellis, las vegas nv. I am in the process of getting out and Joining LVMPD i have a few buddies and even more aquantices in LVMPD. They are a great group of guys there. I can't wait to to work for them.

i went through the hiring process already tested 8th out of 1000, and i am just an average guy. Something from my past haunted me tho so they told me to reapply in 08 which sucks, was really excited to work for them. I know 2 guys that just graduated the acadamy and they are in FTEP! so if you have questions specific to LVMPD i could probably answer them for you. I also do a lot of ride a longs, i did for 3 months strait every sat! It was an awesome experiance and can't explain to you the amount of work that they have going on! Every Saturday i rode swings (3rd shift) and at any givin point and time we had about 10-15 calls pending just for our area. if i am not mistaken there are 7 substations in vegas for Metro.

So if you want to pick my brain feel free, and if you want to come out here and ride sometime to get a feel for it let me know i will get the forms and fax them to you have you fill it out that way its ready for you when you get here! They have to do a Background check before you ride which usual takes anywhere from a week to three weeks.

By the way SWAT and K9 are the two things that i want to do also, i talked to my metro buddies, its pretty competitive to get in, but once you are in keep up on your training. they usualy have 6 K9 units working the whole vally each shift.

Anything more just let me know.

Quinn

hey Quinn, thanks for the info. Its nice to see a fellow AF guy trying to do the same thing. I too have already been threw the hiring process last Sep and Oct and placed in the top 100 of the 1000+ people yet was denied too because of my driving record. they said I can test with them again this fall and I should be good to go. But for the mean time I am wanting to get a job with USProtect up there at Nellis or some other Armed Security Officer job and get a little more school in too. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will be moving to Vegas for good. I'm ready to get out of the dirty south. So what do you do in the AF? I was in Crash Recovery- A/R. Oh and it would be great if you can send me that info and forms for the ride-a-longs.

thanks In Advance
Jon

Jonss, I don't work for them but a good friend of mine that i used to work with left Louisiana to go work for them. He loves it there and makes great money. He likes the guys he works with and all of the action. However, he did say that there are a lot of transients there and has even seen some good neighborhoods turn bad because of them. He has also advised me that Las vegas is not a good place to raise a family. Other than that, he absolutely loves it there.
