Much to my surprise, I have recently discovered that for whatever reason, I failed to send a message to all the members of this group a message introducing myself before I posted and/or replied for the first time.

So, with hat in hand and with a bowed head, I submit the following for your consideration: Graduated from Sevier County High School (1974), Sevierville (Yes, it is the home of Dolly Parton so wipe the drool from your desk) and went to work for the Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Police Department as a cadet. Of course it did not make any difference that my best friend's (we have been pal-ing around for 38 years) uncle was the Chief of Police in G'burg. I stayed there as an officer (1976- 1978) until I was heavily recruited by two THP Sergeants to leave my $850 monthly ($10,200 a year) pay.

The THP offered $1,000 a month plus very good insurance for my son who was born (like me) with bi-lateral club feet. I was with the THP for four years when Wal-Mart started opening stores east of the Mississippi in 1981. I was offered a yearly salary of $18,000 plus all the benefits of being a member of management as a District Loss Prevention Supervisor.

The proudest day of my life was when my pup (my nickname for my son because he was so much like me) volunteered to serve in the USAF and follow in the old man's footsteps as a LEO. Were that I could, I would go to work as a LEO tomorrow and never look back. Finding the PL site was truly a Godsend.

I feel like the prodigal son has returned to the family. Well, enough of me- what do you think of me? :-D

In think 22 times is 21 too many. You do not need to post this in every group you belong to.

I know now that what I did was unecessary.  Sarge saw what I had done and set me on the right course.  As I told him, I felt that since I had posted in those groups I owed an apology to the members.  Instead of using a flyswatter to kill a fly, I tried to kill it with an AK-47.

All I can say is that I am sorry for causing any problems.

Sitting here very humbled, I am,

Welcome to PL

Thank you! It is nice to be back amongst people who have "been there."  Unless you have faced an armed criminal, picked up a dead body (infants and children were always the worst) and looked skyward and said "Why God, why?" performed first aid to keep someone alive until the ambulance arrived, had to sit in the hospital room guarding a prisoner who you attended high school with while he was going through withdrawl episodes, spending your RDO in court, wrestling with a drunk...alone...with no way to call for assistance, delivering a death notice to a friend of yours, ensured that you did not ream out a man in front of his family, then there is no way that anyone could understand how I feel about things.

If you scroll up, you will see that I deleted my earlier post. Not impressed with your comments to sarge and your ramblings like no one else has faced or dealt with the things you describe. One of the lead articles on the home page right now is from my backyard .... 2 officers shot in the line of duty in Niagara Falls. And, there's the young man in Rochester, Officer DiPonzio, who was shot in the back of the head last week.  Head's up ... LEO's face every travail known to man every single day. You're not a special case.

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it. For I shall not pass this way again. Unknown

I am sorry if I offended you.  I never meant to infer that I am special in any way, shape, form or fashion.  As I stated, only those who are or have been a LEO know how those experiences interwoven with our "off duty" life causes a feeling of brotherhood, if you will, with other LEO's.  When I was working with Wal-Mart, I took special care to visit with the local LEO's to let them know that if they knew or heard of any problems with the store, they would know who to call to take care of the situation.  I have spent many an hour drinking coffee with the local LEO's to discuss what if anything I could do to make the store safer for the public.  Most, if not all, of the conversations were started when they discovered that I was a former LEO.  Some of my stores were too far away from my home for a drive there and drive home.  Many a time when I had to stay overnight, I would be invited to ride along with officers.  As a matter of fact, I recruited a few officers if they expressed a desire to leave the LEO life because of some of the things I mentioned in the original posting.

As to TheSarge, there was a reply from him in my box on another situation.  In my reply to him, I mentioned the posting that I made on the site.  I told him if he was offended in any way, I would tender to him a note requesting my banishment from PL.  The posting was made in jest with the intention of causing discussion.  I developed thick skin when I was a child as I was made fun of because my family was dirt poor and I had to wear special shoes because of a birth defect.  When I encountered the japes and jeers of others, I would laugh along with them.  When I now encounter any of them, I treat them as I would anyone else and never mention the Hell that they put me through.

My apology again and I hope that one day we can reach a middle ground where we can have discussions on different topics.  The door to that is awaiting your knock.  I am standing behind it looking forward to open it up.

Thank you for your graciousness! May I be the one who disproves the old saw "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." I fully intend to make good use of my second chance with you.
