 Hi all.. Thanks for the replies on the brass knuckle question.

 My current situation is am healing smashed knee cap. And today Doc says it's ok to try to start to walk. Looking for a cane. Seems they have "sword canes". Now, I collect weapons. And do not have one. Yet... I do have a "concealed weapons permit"... The sword cane is officially a weapon..Correct ?..

 Does that mean edged weapons ?

 Of course I would not ever try to go through an airport and such with it.. C'mon.. That would be stupid.. But as this old man obviously needing a cane, is in possession of it. What would you do. ?

Do I Need a walker instead ?

Do I Need a walker instead ?

... as in a walker sword, never seen one but I digress,

In Texas 46.01 PC (6)  "Illegal knife" means a:

(A)  knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;

(B)  hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;

(C)  dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;

(D)  bowie knife;

(E)  sword; or

(F)  spear.

Hope this helps.

One question, did they not teach you this in your CCW class in Washington?

Um, in Washington State, there is NO "class" to get your permit.  !! You give 2 sets of fingerprints, Fill out a form.. And less than a month you get a piece of paper that says you can carry a weapon... I was surprised at that also when I applied.. I really feel that all states should require at least a one day class..I just happen to have a clean as a whistle record and background as all applicants still have to go through the required checks that all other states have. Just as thorough.

 And as a limping 40 something GIMP, I prefer to carry my pistol as well as another weapon. I will not be a victim to some dumb ass punk who thinks that my family and I are a target.. My family and I will go home tomorrow night.. Perp. goes home in a bodybag.

Would you protect your family as I wish to ?

Here in TX, you'd likely get yourself arrested walking around that sword cane.  Just get a 'normal' walking cane.  If you ask me, I'd stick with the gun since you can legally carry that around with you.  Besides, ever heard the old saying, "Don't show up to a gun fight with a knife."  If you ask me, odds are "punks" you may encounter out there are more likely to be carrying guns anyways.

Assuming you haven't done this already, I would think that you must have some sort of conceal carry permit classes available in your area.  Might be worth paying the money to help legally educate yourself on whatever your local laws may be concerning this issue.  Just my humble opinion.

Well I am a WA state officer.  You are correct in that WA is a shall issue state.  However it is a CPL, meaning concealed pistol license.  It does not cover edged weapons.  There are edged weapons that are unlawful in this state.  The cane swords I seen are likely to be illegal since they have two sharpened edges.  I know of no specific length of edged weapons in the RCW.  The issue you may run into is local ordinances that are allowed by law to be more restrictive.

Get a cane that can be used as an impact weapon it is more defensible in court rather than trying to explain why you impaled a poor criminal with a big a@# knife.  Remember this is a hug a crook state.

Finally don't be condescending it only angers me.

Umm, I'll let that question go.  The reason I ask is your line of questions  http://policelink.monster.com/topics/45872-brass-knuckles-question/post...; indicates that you want to carry more that just a sidearm.  I don't know why, as a civilain, you would prefer a sword or brass knuckels over a firearm.

 Wow, glad I read this post.  I happen to have one of these sword canes in my closet - it was my great-grandfathers.  I've always just thought of it as an interesting antique - I guess I'd forgotten it's also a weapon!
