January 13, my son Caleb flew to Texas to begin basic training for the airforce. He had already been preselected for the S.E.R.E program an acronym  for  Survival Evasion Resistance Escape. So once he is finished with his basic training, I believe he will be going to Spokane Washington to begin training for the S,E.R.E. team. I will make this short and brief.  I have to say I am the proudest I have ever been of him. He has made a manly decision and is standing by it. Although he is my baby and it breaks my heart to let him go, I support him in his decision and back the military branches in every aspect. I will openly admit I have cried myself to sleep each time I lay down to sleep. The waiting for the phone call from him, to hear that he is alright, to receive an address from him so I can begin to write him is driving me nuts! As soon as I get an address for him, I will post it. God Bless and take care.  Donna

Hi Donna,

Thanks for the info. Please keep the Group posted and give us a mail address as soon as you can so we can drop him a line or two.

BTW: I live about 2 1/2 south of Spokane.  Weather is COLD!  I guarantee you he will have the BEST instructors the USAF has to offer!

God Bless him.

Working night shift and sleeping during the day bites!!!!! especially when it means missing a call from my son.......... I talked to his girlfriend today, Caleb is in the hospital for some type of infection and injury to his finger.....of course her being young and (not his mama) she failed to get details.... I jokingly said his finger is probably going through withdrawals of not being able to text message, my space, face book, playstation, dial cell phone etc........ I am sure it cannot be too serious or someone from the powers that "BE" would have contacted "ME" with further.  I hope this does not put him behind his scheduled graduation date of March 12th....If any of you find the time, drop him a line of encouragement or a big hello.......

911diva..... As a military mother I know what you are going through.  My son just finished a 9 month deployment in Iraq, of course I have been going through this for all of his 12 military years.  The waiting for a phone call or a letter has to be the worst, everytime my phone would ring I hoped it would be him. God bless you and my prayers always.  Please tell him that I am very proud of his service.

Update on my son Caleb. He graduated basic training with the Air Force. He is an official "AirMan"   I am so proud.....but of course I have always been proud of all his achievements. Out of his flight school there were 3 candidates for the S.E.R.E program. Out of the entire flight schools going through basic training at the same time, there were 29 potential candidates. After the weeding out process, whatever that may entail, 11 out of 29 came out of basic with the potential of going to Spokane Washington to start training. After graduation, the other Air Men headed out to their various locations for their tech schools. The 11 S.E.R.E candidates stayed behind at Lackland for a few weeks and then had a "field" training exercise. Out of 11 that went into the woods for either 4-5 days or nights 1, decided it was not for them. 10 made the final cut, and Caleb was one of them.  He is now in Spokane Washington, soon to begin his S.E.R..E. training.  He loves the air force and he said it was the best choice he could have ever made.  When I went to Texas in the few short months he was there, I could tell a difference in the maturity level and the pride and respect he carries and represents.  My nephew, who is 6 months older then him is in the army. I have another nephew who is a year younger then Caleb, going into the army this summer. My father was a 26 year career man of the United States Army before he died. I only wish that he could have lived to see his grandsons grow up to serve their country.

More later when, I can update.

Caleb says thank you to all that sent cards and wrote. He said it was a big morale booster and helped him get through when he was home sick.  I too thank everyone for all you have done.
