Fundraiser to help officer with transplant

SMITHFIELD - Smithfield town employees are putting on a fundraiser Feb. 8 for one of their own. Smithfield police Lt. Kurt Beach is thought to have acquired hepatitis C in trying to revive a sick child 20 years ago. The event will help Beach pay for a lifesaving liver transplant.

The fundraiser at the Smithfield Center located at 220 North Church Street, Smithfield, Virginia will run from noon until 5 p.m. The menu includes chicken, green beans, potatoes, hush puppies, a drink and dessert for $10.

Gift baskets and other items will be raffled off.  Anyone interested in donating something for the raffle can call Tracy James at 365-4256. Friends of Beach have also set up the Kurt Beach Medical Fund at any Bank of America. Beach hopes to find a "living donor," someone willing to donate part of his or her liver. Potential donors are being screened. So far, no match has been found.

I would love to donate for his procedure. I cant be there in person, but I used to live a few minutes from Smithfield and have alot of friends there. I will let them know to go buy a ticket or two.

May God Bless Lt. Beach with a successful transplant and A speedy recovery.
