I am a recently trained and now actively working a passive drug dog handler. I am interested in the views of more experienced handlers on the subject of how to reward these dogs for best results.

The best reward is at source, after the dog has given the positibe response. For the ultimate behavior control, a variable reward schedule is the absolute best. Meaning, the dog does not recieve it's primary reward each time it resonds. the dog learns that; I know I'll get it, I'm just not sure when.
