Posted over 4 years ago I work at a county jail where we charge $6 for an entrance pack (shampoo, etc). We only charge this if we actually place them in population. Like many counties during these economic times, we are loosing funding. We charge a nominal copay for meds and doctor visits as well as fees for haircuts. I've heard of county jails charging a fee every time a person enters their facility and even charging for meals, etc. I would like to know what other county jails do for fees and how it's working for them. Thanks for your input. Keep Safe. |

Posted over 4 years ago I don't work in a jail so I don't know all the various fees, most of which may vary from county to county. However, all persons booked into a county jail in the State of Michigan are required to pay a $12 state booking fee (per PA 121). Those who do not pay by the time they are released are issued a civil infraction citation. The county jails are also allowed to seek reimbursement for housing and other expenses, but I do not know if all jails collect these at a uniform per diem rate and charge the same co-pays for scripts.

Posted over 4 years ago Here in Atlantic County, NJ we charge a 50.00 fee every time they come in, as soon as they come in the door. Than on the 1st of every month they get charged another 50.00. We don't go after them if they owe, but next time they come in if they have money we take what they owe and continue on from there. The inmates also get charged for Doctors visits, nurses visits, medication telephone usage after the first five free local calls. I love this place.

Posted over 4 years ago I work at Coweta County Jail in Ga and every time a person is release they are required to pay a $13 bond fee, the only other fee I can think of is they have to pay $5 if they see a doctor or receive any kind of meds. I think they should have get socks, underware, and sweat shirts off the store instead of us providing it.

Posted over 4 years ago Thanks for your input. For awmontgomery...the only thing inmates get from us is the uniform, they have to purchase socks, underwear, etc off commissary. For firzcvfd...I like your system of the $50 fee. We don't make people pay our $6 fee when they bond out or transfer either, just keep it as a debt that maybe we can collect next time. I like the monthly $50 fee on top of the other things that we also charge for like you. Wonder if our Sheriff could get that past the commissioners. Thanks again for your input.
