Guys, I have recently retired  after 25 years in LE. I live in Coosa County Alabama, a very rural area, and my 15 acres ajouns a hugh hunting lodge called 5 star plantation. $300 hundred a day to hunt or $10, 000 a year. Only the rich can hunt here. Well I have two beautiful labs  t come up missing and I went looking for them. I found them both maybe 50 yards off my property onto 5 star plantation, both shot dead by 30.06. I found and recovered 2 shell casings. What is my next move and can I sue although I do not knw wh fired the shot. I know that they keep a log of hunters but I also know that they can doctor the log to cover them. By the way, they shot anther of my dogs a year ago and paid the vet to put her down. any advise will help.........

I would start by contacting the Game Warden for your county.  He should have access to the club, the owners, and may be able to get to the bottom of it.  If you don't know the Game Warden or can't find him contact the Game Watch Hotline.  The number is 1800-272-GAME.  They can get in touch with him and have him contact you.  If that doesn't work I would file a report with the local Sheriff.  If you still need some assistance shoot me an email.

Thanks, I made contact with our game warden and he will be here in the morning. I took pictures and he said that I could bury the dogs, so i did.  I gathered 2 spent 30.06 rounds and I hope a print can be lifted.

Sorry about your dogs.  Glad to hear someone will be coming out.  Please update here and let me know how it turns out.  There's never an excuse to commit such an act.  Gives hunters a bad name

Well, a Game Warden came out on the 26th and we discussed the incidents with our dogs. He went over to Five Star and checkd their logs to see who had hunted near my property that day. As expected, they had put no one in the area. We were told that it was probably someone hunting illegally. I could buy that if I could understand this...If I am hunting on private hunting lodge property, top notch lodge ,many promanent people come hear to hunt, but if I am hear illegally, why would I risk getting caught to fire two rounds into dogs that just happened across my path. This has happened before and it will happen again. I will patrol my boundary in the future because if a stray bullet hits my kids, then I guess an illegal hunter did that too.  Thanks for your replies, but as the game officer said, this case is closed......

I hate that is the only answer the officer could come up with.  I think he let you down on this one.  I wish you the best of luck!

I would be talking to any care takers that work there myself.
