Well I got my notice last week that I made it onto the hiring list for the local PD that I have been in process with since April.

Im 13th out of 15.

Ive tried out for 3 other departments before this one.

Frankly, I don't know how to ask this, so I'll just put it out there.

Should I consider 3 departments saying no to me, and now this department putting me 13th on the list as a sign that maybe God doesn't want me to be an officer?

I realize sometimes He will put you through trials and tests to see how devoted you are to something you believe in, but I also understand that sometimes doors shut, and continue to shut for a reason.

Right now Im a little lost.

I enjoy my job that I have now, but in reality Im miserable. The job isn't hard, and I get along with every one here. The problem is Im bored out of my skull due to the fact the job is very monotonous, and I sit at a desk every day, all day.

Not really the working life I want for me.

I want to be helping people, and changing lives, always on the go  - making a change in the world, one person or family at a time.

Thoughts, comments, or suggested prayers would greatly be appreciated right now at this time in my life.

My opinion of this interpretation is that he is testing you to see how  diligent you are.  Just think, he let you be on the list this time. Prayer is the key. Just hang in there.

I would not take this as God saying no, but that maybe those departments are not where He wants you to work.  I put in many applications and recieved many turn downs.  Some multiple times.  When the right place becomes available He will place you where He wants you.  Keep faith and remember that He is working for you.  I prayed every day that He would put me at a department of his choosing.

Stick with it. Just keep a good testimony at your current job, keep applying yourself, stay in the Gym and most importantly stay in the word and in your prayer closet. GOD will do the rest. Keep your chin up and let him shoulder your worries and he'll put you where HE wants you.

You'll be fine, GOD has a plan for you, Look at Joseph...............

I agree with MPOTS. When I got out of college some 28 years ago the last place I wanted to be a cop was in my hometown. I applied to places all over the country. Lots of spots in Kentucky where my soon to be wife was from. Guess where I ended up. Righ back in my hometown. Two years later I moved to the other city in the county and have been there for over 25 years.During my career I have been an FTO, Academy Instructor, Training Division Commander and SWAT team member, team leader and commander. I have not always been the Christian witness I should have been but I have had many opportunities to talk to troops and citizens. A few have come back years later and thanked me for the help. So I guess I was where God wanted me to be. It just took time to reallize what his plan is.

You sound like you have the desire and the drive so I think that maybe God is directiing you somewhere or wants you to grow in some area.

If you log onto Focus on the Family website and search around the archives you can find a episode with Bob Vernon. He was the assistant chief of police for LAPD.  HIs talk was on Proverbs 3:5-6. It was great and helped me alot in my search for God's direction.

Keep the faith and keep plugging

I don't know if this will help but maybe maybe sharing this might encourage you. I have been in LE for 6 yrs now and I never thought that I would ever be in this line of work. I had prayed that God would put me where He wanted me and He closed every door except for a local agency. About a year ago I lost my job at another Sheriff's Office after an election. I wondered if the Lord was taking me out of LE and wanted me to look elsewhere. I applied at many different agencies and kept being turned down. Seven months passed and I still did not have a job, but God met all our needs. Then all of a sudden I was offered a job with a Sheriff's Office that I had applied to seven months before. God put me where He wanted me but in HIS TIME. Our timing is not His timing. Through it all, I prayed and God answered my prayer. Don't get discouraged or lose faith. If you seek Him, God will direct your path and if He wants you there He will put you there.

Thank you all for your replies.

I was reminded by the Great Architect today:

Some one roamed the forrest for 40 years.... and I should be worried over a few months.

*Laughs*

I will keep trying. I'll keep you all posted.
