Posted almost 6 years ago Just finished my background check and first interview with local PD. Found out I had less than fair credit. Is that a cause for DQ or will it hinder my application process? |

Posted almost 6 years ago I would say probly not but in some dep yes, its hard to say. i would try to start paying on it and get it out of the way.

Posted almost 6 years ago hate to say it but it will keep you from getting hired at some of the larger department.i dont believe that any department should go that far,i know the reason why they do, but it is not as good as a intense interview.

Posted almost 6 years ago Many if not most department will not hire you if your credit is not good. They do not want anyone calling them about a bad debt. In my dept they would fire you if you started getting collection calls to the dept. A police officer should be above reproach and this is part of it.

Posted almost 6 years ago At the departments that I've applied to they told us that it wouldn't be a disqualifying factor but they're going to dig that much deeper during backgrounds to see what your spending habits are like (amount of money you're spending compared to the amount you're making). If it's because of a past issue they'll want an explanation for it. So you're finished with your background investigation?

Posted almost 6 years ago thanks for all your replies. My credit issues have been from prior issues which i have been working to resolve. I am though finished with the background part just waiting to hear from them about the next step....if i get a next step.

Posted almost 6 years ago It's super stressful right after backgrounds. I wrapped up backgrounds only about three weeks ago, but that was the last thing that I had to get through in order to be offered a job. Hang in there, stay strong...almost done.

Posted almost 6 years ago i thought the backround check is more important than the creidt score so why would the credit score matter? The only way fo evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

Posted almost 6 years ago most agency think you will be most likely to take money or other valeuables on the job. and i dont know many officers that dont have money troubles at one point or an other...we are not above these things either. we can make mistakes like most other humans...when i do background checks this is not my biggest concern..

Posted almost 6 years ago What I can't understand about backgrounds is each company or group does their own and all they have to do is go back to the last place that did one

Posted almost 6 years ago Angel, while departments share information regarding backgrounds they are more interested in doing their own work. Consider that to be a benefit to you if you've ever been DQ'd in backgrounds; I was disqualified twice in backgrounds for a bogus reason, and by the grace of God my most recent background investigator listened to me and then looked into the matter. I was NOT disqualified and actually was offered a position based on his hardwork. So, in my case, I'm very, very glad that they only share information and don't go solely off of what the last department found.
