I have a new group for military and law enforcement officers meant for sharing your war story whether it's from the streets of Iraq to the streets of NY. Tell your story.

heres a small tidbit---what was it 1977?? reggie jackson and the ny yankees did it again and won the world series. New York hosted the yankees with the usual tickertape parade up broadway in nyc to the city hall where the  team was hosted by the mayor.  My partner zeke and I were detailed from our command in bed-stuy to the parade detail and we were assigned to a flatbed trailer on which many of the champion team rode thru the parade.  being good ghetto cops, zeke and I decided to ride on the trailer rather than walk....we met all our players and i got the entire group of yankees on our trailer to sign a page on my memo book.............where is all this going??imagine what the autographs would be worth today?? yeah but in that same memobook was trial data and my memo book was put into evidence and i lost all the autographs.....oh well.great time was had.

If I may add a little - Back in 1980-1983 I was assigned to the Brooklyn docks with Customs with my K9. Many a time I was able to check with some pals from NYPD in the 79 (narcotics unit). We'd call up and see if they were going to do any warrants and if they wanted any help. "Course they loved to have the narc dogs with them and they always said yes. We'd tell the boss that NYPD was asking for assistance and was OT approved. LOL - we had to make some money back then!

Once we hit an apartment that was suspected of dealing drugs, the officers went in first and we'd follow with the dogs.  Quickly we found about a pound of weed or so that was packaged and ready to go. Not much use for the dogs as it was on the kitchen table. One of the officers asked if he could watch the dogs work anyway. I told him to hid the grass and I'd walk outside so that the dog didn't see him (or me).

Walked in and I saw the grass under the pillow on the sofa. (You're kidding right?) I tried to make it as official as possible and not lead the dog right to it. Took the dog off leash to allow her to have some fun. "Angel" runs over to the sofa and just goes nuts scratching and biting under the sofa.

The officer gives me the look (and a smirk) and says "Yo, it's under the pillow." I asked if he looked under the sofa.

Made some new friends that day when we turned it over to find another 45 pounds underneath it.

Small seizure but it was a lot of fun.

6 months since someone posted a story on this thread so here goes Nuthin~!

working a sector in the 77th precinct-BED-STUY, My partner and I get tipped that a Bouncer a a hot nightspot just pistol whipped a guy with a .45 and that the guy was gonna come back for revenge soooo...we race back to the station house, grab an anti-crime car and civie jackets and go stake out the club. SURE AS SHIT-HERE COMES A CAB, DRUNK GUY GETS OUT WITH A NICKEL PLATED .32 REVOLVER IN HIS HAND, WALKS RIGHT PAST OUR CAR, WE GET OUT, POUNCE ON THE DRUNKEN IDIOT, TAKE HIS LOADED .32 AWAY AND ONE FELONY COLLAR IN THE BACK OF THE AUTO. Now, to the Bouncer, we go into the club, as my partner distracts him I quicklythrow the guy to the floor and we take a nice loaded 1911a1,  .45 off the guy. 2ND FELONY GUN COLLAR FOR THE NIGHT IN THE BACK OF THE AUTO. Just as we are about to pull away from the club, its owner shows up and wants to know if "there is anything we can do about his guy geting locked up?-can we take care of "BUSINESS?". i TOLD HIM WE HAD TO TAKE THE TWO GUN TOTTING FELONS INTO THE HOUSE SINCE WE HAD ALREADY CALLED IT IN. AND ANY BUSINESS WOULD HVE TO BE DISCUSSED THERE. On the way to the precinct we had central notify iad, who dispatched a team and my partner and I were wired and a recorded BRIBE OF 1000. for the release of h is bouncer was recorded when the clubs owner showed up. FELONY COLLAR #3 FOR THE EVENING - BRIBERY. We are doing the pater work, prints, vouchers for the tapes, guns, money etc.  when we get a call from the cells that the Club Owner wants to talk to us, so we get IAD again and we go into the holding cell, where the club owner, even though he knows and sckknowledges he is under arrest for bribery, tried to bribe us again a second time with $500. if we would at least give him back the  .45 which he admitted was actually his and had lent it to the bouncer. case closed!.

oh yeah,  where wuz i??

four bad guyz on a ferry boat to staten island,  an me up the proverbial creek, ya see, i am and wuz a very naughty boy, dating this beautiful cuban girl, off on a prom, still on probation, and a fiancee somewhere in brooklyn who will be an ex fiancee if this gets out....

with practiced speed i draw my off-duty colt from from the shoulder holster located under my left armpit and for effect cock said hammer back.

these guys thankfully takeoff running down to the lower level where the cars are parked

boat starts blasting horn, crew members come running from up and down search of the boat turns up two bad guys (the two with the valuables

120th pct in on hand when ship docks, crew and nypd do a search  but do not turn up the other two who were armed.  Several fellow prom goers had to miss the return (after a big delay) cruise to manhattan.

i personally was glad that was the extent of my involvement for that episode.

someday i will get on that classmates site and find some who were there...maybe a followup post at that time...

You should thank the Chief.

I have seen them yank someone out to the acadmey from time to time.  Good people with ability to do a good job.  When I meet back up with them years later, they don't seem the same.  They went UC for a while and it changed the way they think.  Some would do anything to make the pinch.  Later several of them went out on stress, or were relieved from duty.  Not a good thing.  They just used them up and let them go.

well, another six months have gone by and not another tale from the brothers and sistas of the nypd so,....i was listening to disco on  the internet tonite and it reminded me of a time when is was undercover working against organized crime, our meet place was an airfield located on the flatbush avenue extension going to the rockaway peninsula. lindburgh took off from this airfield for his famous flight to europe back in the ole days. now it was used for coast guard facilities, nypd avaition hangers, esu training, emergency responce driving, etc., and a safe place for undercovers to meet their respective back up teams before going on operations. it was a good, secure facility and about 5 miles from a target of mine who owned a  restaurant in the area who happened to be a member of the gambino crime family. met my back up team on this late afternoon, was wired with a kelt transmitter and a micro casette recorder, and after the required prefacing of tapes, began my short journey to meet my target and engage him in conversations to gather evidence of criminal activity. the trip from the meet with my back up team to the site of my targets location was about a ten minute drive-during this time, driving my 1977 pontiac catalina, royal blue, white vinyl tip and white interior,8-track blasting donna summers singing disco songs.i cruised along, singing to the beat, windows down, wind flowing thru the car, tunes loud and me singing loud and clear..."so lets dance the last dance tonight.."

about a  year later, federal court-eastern district-trial-here i sat before judge, jury of twelve, a packed courtroom, after days of testimony and evidence,  the tapes were being played for all to hear, and here comes that fateful day when the entire courtroom heard: "so lets dance the last dance tonight"

yup, me belting out disco songs with donna summers, the entire courtroom, judge, jury, burst out laughing and applauding to my singing to the music on my 8-track tapes.

by the way, 7 out of 8 were convicted on this case. m.

my oh my, time sure does fly by when your havin fun and not havin to work the streets anymore-

I am working sector john in the 77th precinct with a fill in partner for the day named ronnie. this is the first time ronnie and i have worked together but i have seen him often and he was a cool steady cop, tall, well built, light skinned afro american.

it was early afternoon when we are dispatched to an apartment on bedford avenue to see a female complainant re: threats

seems this attractive woman in her mid twenties had recently broken up with her ex  boyfriend and he had been to her apartment to hook back up and when she rebuked his advances and told him to leave he threatened her with a gun and said he would kill her and any cops if she called the police on him.

we got a picture of the perp from the complainant and a description of his auto and i had ronnie call this guy up at his house, sure a heck,  this guy answers the phone and ronnie tells him that he is the girls new boyfriend and if he ever threatens his girl he will stick that gun where the sun dont shine (NOT EXACTLY THE WORDS RONNIE USED BUT WHEN I TRIED TO WRITE IT LIKE IT WAS, MONSTER SAID I WAS USING BAD WORDS) The bad guy is screaming on the phone and says he will be right over and see.

i quickly stash the squad car around the corner, ronnie takes off his uniform jacket so the bad guy can only see  him in a civilian shirt waiting in the lobby, i am waiting across the street behind garbage cans under a stoop

not five minutes later here comes the guy screeching up in his car, he gets out with a 9mm in  his hand, screaming at ronnie to come outside

FREEZE OR YOU ARE DEAD! I come up behind him, ronnie comes out in front, dude drops it and we lay him out in the street and cuff him

77 john to central k, one to the house under arrest.  ronnie takes the collar and i go to the hamptons for the weekend for I and I.
