| Posted over 3 years ago BUMP! Those leaving those comments must not have read the article about other LEO's that have lost their jobs over comments on MY Space and Face Book. The same holds true here. "You don't rise to the occasion; You default to your level of Training"

| Posted over 3 years ago Here's my two cents on this topic: This is a site for people who are currently in law enforcement, or have serious dreams of becoming a LEO. Obviously, there are a good number of trolls and badge bunnies who show up on this site, but you find those sorts on every site. But, for the people who are serious about pursuing a career in LE (or already have one), you should really think about the photo you're putting on your profile or the comment you leave on someone elses... Photos (this is aimed mostly at the younger female members): Is the picture appropriate? Well, duh, that's the first thing you want to think about before you consider posting it. I think of it this way, if I'm okay with my grandma or my boss seeing the photo, it's probably appropriate. Is it showing a lot of skin or cleavage? It's hard not to show a bit of cleavage these days if you're a woman, because the majority of shirts are MADE TO. Just be careful you're not showing too much. Like I said before, think about what your grandma, boss, aunt, mother, father, pastor, etc would say about that picture. If you don't think they'd say anything negative, then it's probably okay, and not showing too much. If you really like a photo, and want to post it, but think it shows more than is appropriate, you can always crop it in a photo-editing program first. :) Also, keep photos that are not of yourself, family-friendly as well. No pictures of people flipping the bird, acting like gangsters, doing drugs (I mean, this is POLICElink, lol), etc. Photo Comments: I personally hate getting comments that use the words, "hott, hottie, sexy, babe" and the like. Most women find that a bit degrading. However, I don't mind comments that say I am beautiful or look nice. I consider those to be appropriate. Of course, most of my pictures don't show much other my face. Still, I take being called beautiful as an appropriate compliment and being called that makes me feel good, not dirty. So, when you leave a comment think about how it's going to make the other person feel. Is it going to make them happy and make them feel good about themselves, or make them feel gross? Another thought that just popped into my head: Post an inappropriate photo, you're asking for an inappropriate comment. People comment on what draws them to that particular photo, whether it's a just a good photograph, you're wearing a nice shirt, or you're showing a lot of skin. If it's the latter, you might as well be wearing a sign that says, "Tell me I look sexy." That's not always true, and some people will leave inappropriate comments on just about anything. I got a very inappropriate comment (on a different site) on a picture of my EYE! The comment is too...eh, strange and disgusting to post here, but you get the idea. Anyway, those are just MY thoughts, and I am a young woman with a serious goal to become a police officer. : )
Sorry for the long read, I had a lot to say. Imagine, I was originally just going to say, "BUMP", but then I started thinking. Maybe I should stop doing that.... Life's tough, it's tougher if you're stupid. I've had the wind knocked out of me, but never the hurricane. - Jeffrey McDaniel |

BUMP!! Agreed 100% As much as its wrong for people to be leaving innapropriate comments its also provoked by the pictures posted like I read before and completly agree with this is not a site to be caring what people think about your appearance! I learned that quick! Your on here to meet other people in LE and learn share word thoughts situations and what not ! I realize that as someone in school and entering into the LE field that Noone wants to hire someone that they're gonna have to worry about the integrity of their department because that person cant even keep their photos off the internet by posting them for public viewing whether it be police link FB myspace or what ever!! So food for thought watch your comments AND be decent putting photos up!!

There are other websites to make you feel good about yourself! Recieving compliments "your sexy or sexy eyes" could and would seem vulgar or disrespectful to someone of the older generation (I work with the older generation so I have a tid bit of knowledge on generation gaps) because usually that type of comment seems as if it is expecting a response back! Where as a younger person that doesnt have old school views wouldn't see anything wrong with it, its just a compliment..... I put a picture of myself just goofing off jeans and tank top, and being younger and viewing it as that (goofing off) didnt think anything until someone felt it was not so appropriate! Realizing what site im participating on as a member I realize goofing off, appreciating beauty, anything offhand that you wouldnt think your grandmother would want to see perchance (going to extremes) would be offensive to atleast one person on here should be for the casual networking sites. People just simply need to watch what they're posting and saying! Its more respectful! |

exactly!!!!! And comments like that just aren't needed on a site like this - neither are the pics. Would you say such things or expect those comments from colleagues and coworkers? Or would you hang those pictures on the walls of your office? They're just not appropriate - save it for Facebook or Myspace or better yet Tagged. | Posted over 3 years ago If bubbly or flirty is your thing, then keep it off the boards and chat with your 'friends' via PM. This is not a social networking site like FB or MySpace. We encourage professional networking and building a good contact base, and we want everyone to have a good time.....however, there are plenty of predators on here that will gladly accept your bubbly and flirty personality. |

Nicole92 please step back and consider, before you get yourself in trouble, that you are addressing one of the moderators of the site. |

I strongly recommend that you walk away from this thread while your account remains intact. You have ZERO business attempting to debate ANYTHING with me. You are a 17 year old child who is crossing swords with a law enforcement officer and site moderator. This is your one and only warning.....swallow your ego and walk away. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Sad to see this as an issue on this site since it is for LEOs and supporters and other professionals related to the field. Most members of LE probably did not enter LE straight from the priesthood and it;s hard to control human nature, but you are correct in your assessment of the situation. Every one here should realize that it is a public site and we should take care not to place anything on here that would reflect negatively on ourselves our professions or other officers. It's difficult enough these days to maintain credibility and integrity with thepublic without coming off looking like a bunch of fools....we(the public sector) are watching and we expect a lot from you folks.....respect is not automatically given anymore,,it is earned and to see the badge smeared is unacceptible....if you choose to wear it,be proud of it and honor it AT ALL TIMES! That's all I have to say. |

| Posted over 3 years ago BTW, as a member of the supposedly "OLDER People", I can appreciate a compliment now and again, but as stated by others, there are other sites available for personal comments....Even on those,it;s wise to be mindful of what you say since no one really knows who they're talking to for the most part and it can come back to haunt you later. Try to get to know someone before putting yourself in jeopardy for something innocently said that could be mis=interpreteted or cause someone to be offended....honesty is not always present on public web sites.... |

| Posted over 3 years ago I agree completely with semicrazy1. Although I respectfully have to say, I thought the moderator was a bit harsh with Nicole92. I thought it was safe to voice your own personal opinion here and it looks like thats all she was trying to do . It didnt sound like she was being disrespectful or rude. JMO. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Then allow me to clarify.... The whole concept of people on this site with bubbly, flirtacious attitudes was the apex of this. Nicole advised that she didn't see a problem with it, IF you were familiar with the person to whom you were speaking and that was a part of your personality. I have no problem with that, but I made a blanket statement to everyone who was reading and following this thread, that behavior such as that needed to be kept off the open forum and kept in the PM feature, due to this being a LE site and not FB, or such..... Nicole appeared to take this as a personal attack, and not the all encompassing statement that I already said it was. Now....if anyone needs to go back and re-read the TOUs and forum rules, I suggest you do it. Regardless of personal opinions, there are rules here and interpretation is everything. Not only did I view it as disrespectful, so did a second moderator. A warning was issued and appears to have been heeded. The issue is closed as far as I'm concerned.
