As a former Deputy I have been through the academy and learned about unlawful repossessions.  The learning domain states that if the buyer is present and objects to a repossession before the repossessor has control of the vehicle the repossessor must terminate the repossession attempt.  If anyone has watched the show Operation Repo there are several violations of this, at almost every incident!, and yet these guys still get away with it.  Even to the point of getting into fights with the buyer and forcing their way into the vehicle!   Worse yet, their crimes are caught on tape and shown on TV!  Why is nothing being done about this?  What can be done about this?  I'm not standing up for the delinquent buyers but nobody should get away with crimes, period.

Wouldn't those types of rules/laws be dependant on the specific state they're operating in?

Correct, and to clarify I am talking about the state of California where I reside and the state where I have seen the episodes take place.

Gotcha. I would venture to guess the individuals believe that distracting the vehicle owner is perfecetly ok while their partner gets the car hooked.  All it's going to take is one vehicle owner that knows the law to file a complaint.

It's probablty for dramatic effect and there is not truth to it.  It's all about the ratings and you can't believe everything you see on TV.
