About the best one I have so far is close to 2 months in, we pulled this car over with out of state plates that came back stolen. We got to do a felony stop. Occupied 4 times three adults and 1 ten year old scared to death. I know guys that have been cops for ten plus years that have never done anything like that.

A few months ago, we had a person dock their boat in a marina that they didn't belong (the person was very intoxicated). He then decided to hop in one of the marina trucks and take it to the "casino" (sidenote: there isn't a casino in this town...or the county) and makes it about a quarter of a mile. He crashes the truck and flees on foot before we even catch wind of this. A security guard for a local business contacted us on our city radio channel and we go to investigate the crash, search the area for about a half hour, then I get out on foot while the other officers stay in the cars and continue searching and investigating the crash. About 15 minutes into my search I found our suspect. The other officers respond, because I'm unarmed (with the exception of an ASP). So, he now has been tagged with BWI, DWI, theft of a motor vehicle, and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Then about a month after I started as a reserve I got to do search and rescue in Hugo right after a tornado.

About three years ago, I was still a Sgt I was on patrol with my LT and Coordinator (who is a regular officer).  We get a call for a possible burglary at home under construction.  We pull up and see this 16 year old kid hanging out in front of the home.  We start to question him when another sector car pulls up.  The house has two driveways one on each side.  Two cops go up one driveway and I decide to go up the other one in case somebody runs out.  We really weren't expected anyone to be there nothing seemed to be up at this point.  As I head up the driveway which is completely dark I see two shadows run towards me.  Now you have to remember NYPD Auxiliaries are unarmed.  I start screaming at these two to get on the ground.  One drops immediately and the other runs right at me.  I grab him and throw him down.  The other cops enter the house and we ended up collaring seven that night.  I just remember the adrenline rush that I had that night.

Whenever I have bad night on the street and I wonder why do this.... I just think about that night and the adrenline rush and the fun that I have.

How many of you guys are unarmed? I work for a small town in Illinois (just outside Decatur) and I carry.
