Posted over 4 years ago With the election now over and some wondering what will come next, it is fitting that on Tuesday the 11th of November we remember our brave men and women in uniform all over the globe and those that came before them to ensure the light of liberty burns bright forever. I urge all PL members to change your avatar to something honoring their service and sacrifice. I have selected the Vietnam Veterans Memorial statue that looks over the Wall. From the first moment I saw it I have been inspired by it's symbolism and tributes to those that fought this truly ugly war. My daughter took this picture on her trip to Washington in Sept and it truly symbolizes all of our Veterans not just of the Vietnam conflict, although they hold a special place in my heart even though I was not in that one. This is from the WW II memorial in Washington DC. The words fit the day. Certified wiseacre. Proudly serving since 1986.

Do you have a scanner? I've also taken a digital photo of paper pics before and if you zoom in right and watch the flash it may come out. You have to experiment with it. Certified wiseacre. Proudly serving since 1986.

| Posted over 4 years ago I'm afraid Nov.11 is being phased out. Majority of people don't know what "Veterans Day" is and too many resent veterans, I've always kept a low profile! Whether the fight is just or not , he does his or her duty with honor and the conviction that his country is in need of his service and he answers the call. God bless the troops and their families that sacrifice their presence. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Denny_Crane (Love the show and character by the way!) it'll only die out if we allow it to. I as a veteran am not asking thanks for myself, but for the older vets that sit in rest homes, hospitals etc. This is a day for the living veterans who survived the horrors of war. I have no intention of ever keeping a low profile when asked. Notice I said when asked not seeking out anything. My wife and I have gone to the nursing home she worked at in the past and spent some time with the vets. During the Air Force week in Omaha this past August I specifically told my Airmen that if they saw a vet with a hat or T-shirt to make sure they walked up to them and said thanks. Listen to their stories and words and pat them on the back. This time after the election is the time to remember the good things we have in this country, not only the bad. Memorial day and Veterans day are just two of the holidays we cannot allow the PC crowd to screw up. I urge all to seek out those vets of past wars and thank them. I pass on my thanks to all the vets here on PL. I also point to brooklynsergeant's post........excellent words....... Certified wiseacre. Proudly serving since 1986.

A scanner is like a copy machine for your computer. It will copy the picture and save it digitally instead of print out a copy on paper. Once in the computer you can edit etc the picture. Try taking a digital photo of the paper picture. Do you have digital camera? Certified wiseacre. Proudly serving since 1986.

| Posted over 4 years ago A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for the amount - "up to and including my life." "I think we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious." --Thomas Jefferson "To be prepared for war, is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace." --George Washington |
