After 5 months of heavy training, my son-in-law Stephen finally left for Iraq yesterday night with the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. He will arrive in Kuwait via Ireland sometime this evening. He'll stay in Kuwait for about 10 days and will then be headed for Al Asad Airfield in Iraq. I don't have an address yet, but I would be honored if our PL community would be compelled to write or send packages and pray over the next 9 months.

Hey Frank... Let me know when he gets settled.  We'll put a package of goodies together for him.

Stephen finally forwarded his address:

SGT Renner, Stephen

HHC 2-142 IN

FOB Al Asad

APO AE 09333

He is sharing a room (converted connex box) with two other guys  On his second day in country, he was taken to visit the soccer stadium where the olympic team was put to death for losing the big game, and then to the drained olympic pool with associated torture chambers under the high dive.  They have already begun missions doing convoy security, making sure supply trucks from Jordan don't get harrassed or stolen.  Stephen also told me that Audie Murphy was in the same brigade he is in now, which he thought was pretty cool.

He has mentioned that the PX at Al Asad is very low on supplies right now, so if you're thinking of sending a care package, you can bet he doesn't have most things readily available (not including toothpaste or toiletries, but more like gel insoles, gold bond powder, Ben Gay, etc).  He loves beef jerky, and, if anyone is hunting this season, deer jerky.  He does have a PSP and iPod if you'd like to get him games or iTunes cards for Christmas.  While is was in Afghanistan, he seemed to really enjoy "manly" toys (like remote-controlled helicopters), DVD movies and cigars.  Currently, he and his buddies are hooked on Dane Cook.  I bought him all of the live comedy shows on CD recently and they've been passed around for all to enjoy, so another gift idea may be some of your favorite comedy to provide some stress relief.

Of course, he doesn't expect anything, nor has he asked for anything specifically, but I thought I'd throw out some ideas in case you were wondering what it is he might like outside of a letter and a prayer.

I want to thanks all my PL friends in advance this is the second time in three years he has been deployed over the holidays.
