Posted about 1 year ago i am currently in the process of getting hired with the nypd, i'm trying to find a cop that knows a lot about the hiring process or even a cop that might work or once have worked in APD. I have a few questions that hopefully a cop will be able to answer for me, someone PM me if you think you might be able to help me. |

| Posted about 1 year ago lol, thats funny, well i'm in the process of getting hired, i've passed eveything and done everything in order to make the jan09 nypd academy class except to update paperwork and a mini medical. i recently found out that i was on either a hold or review and it's not a medical one, my investigator won't tell me exactly what it is. when i asked if there's anything that i need to do, bring in, paper work to fill out, etc.. she said no. she said she'll look into it but as time goes by i get nervous because she hasn't told me anything or cleared it up. Am I allowed to find out what the hold is, should I go to who's in charge of her if she doesn't tell me soon what's going on, basically what can I do in order to find out what it is, and clear it up or have someone clear it up for me as soon as possible? |

| Posted about 1 year ago I too am in the process of getting in for January's Academy. I am almost finished with everything and yesterday I come home to find out that Bloomberg canceled the January '09 academy! We are now being pushed back until July of '09. Very disappointing. And in answer to your question on being put on hold - the investigator should tell you. Honestly I have found that many of them are not the friendliest of people! Is there anything in your mind that would stand out to you; arrests, drug usage, credit issues? |

| Posted about 1 year ago It's unfortunate, but true, that budget cuts have forced even NYPD to reduce the hiring of new officers or cancel the next enrollment session. It's a business. Hitting rock bottom gets you down once and only once. Nothing lasts forever, except forever. Stay patient and your time will come. I live in Manhattan and know that even though it's tough out there, the tough stay strong and keep going. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I take the written exam this february for the city and I know I'll pass. I'm following in my dad's footsteps (he's retired). I have 83 college credits complete and am currently pursuing a degree in criminal justice admin. and planning. I'm good at math, science, and I speak spanish better than you would expect a white boy that looks like me to. I'm in great shape, clean record, good driver, and I can handle myself in tough situations because I'm straight forward and I'm not the least bit gullible. I never failed a class in my life and I was an accounting major for all of those 83 credits. All I need is an opportunity to show my worth and I am sure I will leave an impression. |

| Posted 11 months ago Good luck to all you guys about to join. Good luck with the Academy lol. Just remember that when they treat you like dirt its not personal. Look at it as your first test, when you go out on the street you will come across some scum trying to provoke you, make you mad and behave unprofessionally, they will be waiting to get you in trouble. If you cant handle the instructor screaming in your face you want handle the street well. I am sure you know by now when you become a Police Officer you are held to a higher standard, don't do anything stupid that would coat you your job, or put you in jail, drinking can be a serious problem to some cops, don't become one of them, its not worth it. I also want to give another good advice, when you are a cop you are a target, both men and women, I am talking about relationships. Few years ago one of the new guys in my house went on a few dates with the girl, she knew he was a cop, he lost interest in her and did not returned calls, she called 911 and reported rape. I was on that job. . . , he was still on probation, as far as I know he is no longer NYPD, he was sort of lucky, they gave him an option to resign and not fired hi. The girl was full of ****, but he lost his job regardless. The job will not take chances.

| Posted 11 months ago As what was posted, take it easy for now they may not hire until there's a real republican in the New York City Office of Mayor! My advice is as old as my underwear so all I can advice you is to keep your noise clean and in contact with your investigator, my best! Ralph......... | Posted 10 months ago Maybe. The class they are planning to hire is very small, around 250 recruits. It will be very competative. I have heard some horror stories with some of these investigators. Some are civilians and others are house mouses who don't want to work and shitcan alot of people. Don't be to discouraged by this because there are some who are great investigators. If you feel like your investigator does not reach out to you, call them. Just don't become the person who calls numerous times a day. Respectfully tell them you want to make sure they have your address down correctly. This is a long process. Good luck! |

| Posted 9 months ago I resigned 19 months ago, but considering the current market and actually missing certain parts of the job I have contemplated coming back. Does anyone know, definitively, if I would have to start from scratch. I was OFF probation when I resigned. I have read elsewhere that you need to come back within a year, but wasn't sure if that was only for those who resigned while still on probation.
Thanks and be safe. |

| Posted 9 months ago Okay. If i go to Laguardia community college and earn 60 Crty credits, would that be okay? of course with passing the exams....i am pretty concerned. i already have 30 in the college and i am ready to just get it over with. my dream has been to become part of the NYPD. Will this be okay??? How long is the wait to be called usually?

| Posted 9 months ago Alright so everyone who is wanting to join NYPD as of now the class is to be very smal which means you need to stand out and also I dont want to be the bearer of bad news but the next class may be pushed back again it is a shame and is not needed seeing how NY could use thousands of more officers but it will all get better soon hopefully. |

| Posted 8 months ago Due to the ecomonic crisis this nationally and locally many governmet and and privatesectors have been hurt and jobs are becomming scarce. In regards to the NYPD in the news today they just stated that they have a 1Billion dollar budget for overtime. I am sure alot of it will be cut down to eventually hire more cops at a lower pay rate. So this may be good news to all of you have started the process of being hired by being assigned investigators or those who have just taken and who pass the written test. Where ever you fit in this don't worry. You should all be okay and on the job in the next few years granted you pass all the qualifing entrance requirements. A special tip to those of you who passed with a high grade. Get all your paper work ready know. ie, Tax returns, college transcripts, moving/parking violations dispositions, criminal court dispositions if ever given a summons or arrested and case dismissed. Military records, unemployment records, welfare and public assistance records and dispositions. You will have to explain everything you did since high school. so if you did not work you wil need a letter from a guardian who finacially supported you when you were not employed. Never say you worked off the books. Pay your back taxes. There is mor but just can't remenber it all. Always try to be one step ahead and have your paper work squared away asap. This will make things move quicker for you during your backgraound investigation. Hopefully this will help some people. |

| Posted 7 months ago in reference to myself: I have 80 college credits (3.9 GPA) Justice an Law Administration major, I speak Arabic, I took the test on Feb 21st and got 92% correct, and I haven't heard anything back yet from the department. when should i be expecting anything? how long does it generally take for someone to go through to the hiring process? I am aware of the current financial situation of the city, just not sure to what extent it effects me...

| Posted 7 months ago I took the test when I was 19, I'm 22 now. I finish a full CJ degree with 130+ credits this may. I am all done with all of the NYPD testing and I am waiting for an academy spot. If anyone has any questions about any of the testing, I can answer them. My investigator is nice, but they do make you submit a lot of paperwork. Just keep your cool and when they ask you for all those documents, make sure to have them. The paperwork you have to fill out is long and arduous. Stay dilligent and if you have questions, ask them. It is worse to do something wrong because you didn't ask. The obstacle course or JST is not that difficult for men. I saw about 200 people take it when I did and all but maybe one passed. The women, depending on your height and strength, you may have some problems with certain parts. The women I took it with said it was hard, and a couple failed. The fence you have to jump is six feet high, and by the end of the course you have to drag a 170+ pound dummy a decent distance. Your calfs feel like fire. They give you four mins and change to finish. Just take your time, so that you don't get too tired at the end. In the mean time, I am doing the CPP (Central Park Precinct) Auxiliary, and also looking into doing volunteer ambulance. I have thought about other agencies, but I mean the call can come at any time, and if you turn it down, it's not good unless you really don't want to do it. My investigator said to call her every two weeks to check on my status, so that is what I am doing as of now. |

| Posted 22 days ago I'm still on "active candidate" status. Took the test in February '09. Got my list # in June '09. Graduated from John Jay in May '09. As far as I can tell from discussion boards, it's gonna be years before I hear a peep from APD. We shall see though. I moved earlier this year and made sure to let them know and submitted my address change. You know, just in case. :) |
