Dolphinblue,

Thanks for sharing your story, as a read your story I felt like I was reading about myself there for a minute and kicked back in to reality that it was you just by reading the first paragraph.  You have strength and courage to put that up and I am glad you shared that.  Many people don't realize just how many adults to this day have gone through something that awful.  It makes some have trust issues, difficulties in relationships(especially if the other person does not understand), it makes some everyday think about (should I keep on living and if I decide not to live how will I accomplish this), It makes you feel uncomfortable around certain everyday activities, It can make you hate everyone around  you and especially yourself, It can make you feel not good enough, ugly, sad, mad, depressed. It is a big tremendous step in life just to get past it and try to forget, but something always happens that makes you remeber. It could be something small, something that other people see as nothing. You do get reminded of it.  It takes a strong person to get over something like this and to tell you the truth, you really never do, you just learn to cope with.  Anyway Thanks so much for your story God Bless You and I am very proud of you, you have accomplished alot and I have a feeling you will accomplish even more,

Most never tell because they are scared, they either feel ashamed, like its their fault, or don't know it's wrong, have been threatened with their lives not to tell, been brain washed, to young to speak, list goes on for  the numerous of reasons why they don't come forward until its to late. There are a few who have and taken many years to get the courage to speak up and lucky to live to tell, and most just hope and pray their family and friends  who was not involved believe them. It's nothing like telling someone you look up to or someone you Love more than the  world  itself and you open up to them and they don't believe you (that's what really makes a child hit rock bottom and make alot of horrible decisions some ending their lives and others just stick out and pray everyday they get through it until they get old enough to leave and try to make a change in the world by reaching out to others.

Anyway enough of my rambling thanks Dolphinblue took real courage for you to post that and glad you did, congrats on graduating and moving forward to make a change and help those that really need help.

Sherry, thank you for sharing your story, it is truly inspirational how you overcame such a brutal childhood, and such a wonderful reminder of the love of God. God does not bring tragic or horrible things into our lives, but he does give us the ability to overcome whatever is placed in front of us. Similar to Victor Frankel's "Man's Search for Meaning" on his survival through the Nazi concentration camps, your story is one reminds us all of the love of God and the power of the human spirit.

God bless you in all you do,

Wes

Sherry, Thank you for taking the time to share with everyone on PL this very moving story of your life. I admire your strength and courage, both at the time when these events were going on, and now for being able to write about it. I am very proud of the fact that I worked for a number of years in our juvenile sexual/physical abue squad helping victims just like you. God bless you!

Very true Truthsleuth, God helps us prevail in all situations.....SRA has been equated with the experiences of POWs and the Holocaust...but this is not the site to discuss such kinds of experiences.....and SergeantTim...thank you for all the effort and time you spent on the behalf of juvenile victims of all kinds of abuse....

Someone needs a little bit of encouragement at this time....you are remembering the past.  I know how hard they tried to threaten you to keep silent during that time.  I was encouraged to make friends with animals and then they were tortured and killed before my very eyes.  I was buried in a coffin and then covered with dirt.  Those are just a couple of things they tried to keep my silent.  I do not know what the past brings back into your life.

I told myself along the way throughout this thread that I would not tell of any of the abuse.  But I want you to know you are not alone.  Sometimes we think no one could possibly believe us or the past we have endured.  Well I do and that is why I shared a couple things from my past.  You are not alone.  Many who have answered to “The Listening Ears of Children” have survived much trauma....and so can you.

They told you you would amount to nothing.  Well, they lied.  They told you you were weak and they were the strong ones.   They lied.  What your perpetrators did not know was it is the weak who hurt people....not the strong.  It is the weak who lie....not the strong.   It is the weak who try to manipulate, deceive and twist the truth to their liking....not the strong.

You survived what should have killed you....that means you are the strong one.

It is now your choice to become whatever you choose to become.

God creates people in His likeness...which means you are a beautiful loving and caring person.  Sometimes circumstances come our way that may cause us to doubt....well realize it is God who gave you the strength and courage to survive.  He never left your side in your darkest of hours... He will never ever leave your side.  Believe in the God who created and sustained you through the storms of life....He has a wonderful plan for you.

It is now your choice to become whatever you choose to become.

God bless and keep you safe.

Thank you Slawdaug1 for those kind words.  My desire for  "The Listening Ears of Children" to be an encouragement for those who have been wounded in life...and  also for all the  LEOs who put their lives on the iine everyday for the welfare and protection of others.... that all your efforts really do make a difference.  And the difference for many...is the difference between life and death. Thank you....all of you.

 Sherry,

I have read your story, and I don't really know how to get into words what I want to say to you. First, thank you for your courage to post this story. I personally know a very close friend who has went through a very traumatic abuse as a child. She does not talk about it at all. Unfortunately, while the type of abuse has changed, the fact that it is still in her life has not. She is a member on this site and I hope that she can read your story and try to get into a better position for herself, and her children. Thank you and best of luck in all your future endeavors. Be sure to stay in touch.

Sherry,

I appreciate your invitation to read your story. I can relate but have never been the type of individual who is willing to expose my inner-most feelings. I am good at hiding them and being strong. When I was young it was because parents did not want to believe or hear of such things. Now it is just easier to put up the tough front and just stay working and busy. I too selected the field of Law Enforcement to try to help those who feel there is no one there willing to stand up for them. Growing up in inner city Chicago, police were not always seen as friends because they were constantly rousting any groups of kids that were hanging for too long. Luckily for me I did make friends with one officer who came to be like a big brother role model for me and changed my life and my vision of policing. I am finishing my Masters in Law Enforcement now and hope to soon be finding the perfect job where I can also be the positive change in someone elses life. Your story will help to give people an opportunity to know that not all victims remain victims. Thanks for being strong and giving back. Congratualtion on your graduation and much success to you!

Sincerely,

Amber

Hi Sherry,

It took a lot of courage and strength to come forward and share your story with others.  I am sure you will be an excellent LE officer.  I hope that life is easier for you, and that you can continue being and sharing the wonderful person you have become.  Take care and God bless you in everything that you do.  Linda K
