| Posted over 3 years ago You know, first I have to say I feel totally speechless. I looked at the story and thought, wow this is one that is long and asked if I really want to read it. I also thought that I owe you, as a friend, to read your story because even though some people might not think so, everyone has something worth telling. This was such a moving and endearing story. I actually broke down in tears because my emotions took over. I allowed myself to fall into the depths of this story and picture what transpired to this poor soul. Then I thought to myself and asked, why am I crying? I should not be crying, but rejoicing because you were able to keep your faith and become a wonderful person. This is how God works. He touched you and although evil took over, he was able to ease your mind. He was able to pick you up and still maintain your mental innocence. You were able to survive many years of torment and torture, but were still able to maintain that innocence. That is what is truly meant to be a survivor and a strong willed person. Thank you for sharing that story because it took a lot of courage and no doubt painful memories to write about it! I commend you for coming forward and not allowing these people to think they got the best of you. You were able to rise up and did not allow them to defeat you! That is absolutely remarkable and amazing. There are not enough words to express my feelings, but I want to personally give you my most heartfelt congratulations on a JOB WELL DONE and you are a winner! You are a winner who is graduating and that takes a strong person in itself, but to over come what you did takes a person made of steele and great faith. You did not allow evil to take over. It definitely won the battle, but NOT the war! You are a wonderful person Ms. Sherry! If you need ANYTHING, you can always count on me my friend! However, I feel that I will probably be the one who would need someone as strong as you instead! |

| Posted over 3 years ago Thank you hafahndir for such kind words....what ever happens in our life we always have a choice as to how we will use the knowledge we have gained through our experiences, whether good or bad. I was so fortunate to be raised where I saw people give back to their community on a regular and continuous basis in one form or another... It was a way of life that I wanted for myself at a young age. And thank you also mweldon for your response. You are so fortunate to have been alert to the disception of this false friend.....things could have turned out so very tragic. God was watching over your new little infant and giving you reason to doubt the validity of this person. Not ignoring those signs saved your child's life. Take care Be safe Stay strong dolphinblue-Sherry |

| Posted over 3 years ago Sadly this still continues today. I can recall the frustration of citing parents into court for abuse of their children and watching the judge merely scold them and return the children to the parents. While you were strong enough to overcome the abuse you were subjected to there are many more, to many, that will never live a normal life. I pray that God will watch over them and give them a special angel like you to light their path. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Listening ears. But what does the ears hear? Two eyes and two ears. Will you listen if I tell you? Listening Ears! Will you listen to the Listening ears of a child? Can you hear me? I'm speaking, I'm hurting, they are hurting me. Listening ears! I can't even speak!! Listening ear! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. Because often times people don't listen. They see things happening yet they don't want to get involved. Abuse is very real and I can relate to your story. My mom always tell me you have to shame the devil. Here the devil should be shame. Remember also what the bible says, We are overwhelmed by one anothers testimony! As stated, even law enforcement and social services failed you. But yet you survived to live to serve an agency that took their eyes off of you. I feel you! God is good and I pray God will set his angels charge over your life and keep you safe. Hang on in there and please don't stop sharing. People will want you to be quite but don't stop! I love you but most importantly, God loves you best!
Be strong!!! You can do it!!!
Much love,
Mrs. Bristol NC/910 28301 |

| Posted over 3 years ago Need to back up here a bit abristol....I said no one ever knew about the abuse I went through....no one in social services or LE failed me as they never knew a thing.... I would be proud to serve with the local LE officers in my community...extremely proud to be counted as one of them.... I wasn't going to share yet about Jill's condition....but many on PL know I wish to be a cop with all of my heart soul and body and I have talked about applying. My second oldest daughter has a pituitary tumor that has acted up once again in the past recent months causing her Cushings to return....it was thought at first she was going to have surgery this month....we knew the next time the Cushings returned her doctor was suggesting removal of the tumor....which means brain surgery....the pituitary gland is located near the optic nerve and the brain stem....fairly critical surgery. Her tumor started turning on the Cushings around April...right when I was going to apply. If we were talking about a lesser surgery I would not have put applying to this agency on hold....but situation the way it is I would not want to be going through the application process and then needing to be away for a matter of 2 weeks to be with her during her surgery....she can do nothing the first month after surgery and very minimal the next month....so I will be spending as much time with her as possible.....now she wants to schedule it in November to fit better with her teaching schedule...she teaches KG.... I have nothing but complete respect for this law enforcement agency....I give them the utmost credit for being an excellent example of character, dignity and respect in the community....I believe they are one of the biggest reasons ( God being the first one) that I turned out the way I did. I never once said social service or law enforcement failed me....and I don't believe it has been commented that way by anyone else responding to "The Listening Ears of Children". Take care Be safe Stay strong dolphinblue-Sherry |

| Posted over 3 years ago I have read your story, thank you for sharing. Like you and others, I too went threw quite a bit as a child and repressed memories come back and remind me, so I know how to keep my past from my own daughter. I made a promise when I found out I was going to have her, that she is not allowed to have my past. I kept things from my own family and when I finally told them, nothing happened. Yes children do listen you are very right. Thank you for sharing, Praise our heavenly father for watching over ever one of us. Welcome Keckler |

| Posted over 3 years ago Wow Sherry! Thank you for sharing this with us...I have read a lot of people's comments here saying what a terrible story this is. True, the circumstances you went through WERE terrible, but I prefer to think of it as a heroic story of a wonderful, strong, and caring person overcoming adversity, and terrible treatment to become the role model which you have become! From the hottest of flames comes the strongest steel. You, ARE a hero, and thank you!

| Posted over 3 years ago Thank you Keith for seeing past the abuse and seeing the silver lining. This is the message I have tried to teach others. What prevents victims from becoming survivors is that they believe the emotional abuse and attacks spewed on them from their abusers. This is the first line of attack of any abuser....it weakens the emotional and psychological strength of their victim. I do not consider myself a hero....but a survivor. Dolpinblue-Sherry

| Posted over 3 years ago You're a walking miracle, ma'am. Stories like yours are the reason I went into Crisis Counseling. Most children will never come forward with it, but if even ONE person can be helped and removed from those situations, it's all worth it. An imagination was given to man to compensate for what he is not...

| Posted over 3 years ago I must reiterate-You are a hero... A survivor just exists, a hero uses their abilities, actions, and experiences to help others...That, by definition, makes you a hero!
