Sherry,

Your story made me cry.  It is sad to hear, but wonderful to know of your success! I love children and have four of my own.  I always try to make a pleasant experience for children because they need to know that the police are there to help them and be their friend.  I will remember your advice each time I encounter a child while on the beat.

May God Bless You,

Curt

Thank you for your response ckiebles. Our children need to be taught how to resist the temptations of peer pressure, and also inappropriate family behaviors and negative attitudes that are often passed down from generation to generation. They need to learn how to “stand on their own two feet”...how to work and live independently and yet interdependently with others, of all social and cultural backgrounds. We were not born to be carbon copies of one another, diversity is a gain for all organizations and communities.

Thank you 11freshstart.  We all know that bullying is a huge issue in our schools, from grade school and up.  Teaching the concepts of character counts have proven to decrease bullying in many schools across our country.  Another attribute of "character counts"...is building the character strengths that allow children/youth to remain strong and not succumb to peer pressure...it also helps them cast off the insults that may come there way....when youth know effective social skills, effective coping skills, and effective conflict resolution skills, they are stronger emotionally to cast off the hurtful comments that are tossed about in the school yard and elsewhere.  When youth feel valued and strong in their own self worth they are far less likely to bully others or fall prey to bullies.

It takes a lot to come out with this kind of nightmare, and a lot more to be strong at the same time.  It sounds like you've got your head screwed on the right way round, it's amazing what God can do.

Good luck to you in your endeavours, i hope you make it onto the force.

I was very touched. one of the reasons that I want to join the force is to protect people from the grasps of bad people. I was to tears as I read this story. People need to be protected from the things that have happened to this young girl. No one should have to go through what she has gone through.

Thank you Smalls95. It is so important that we teach our children how to value each other, to appreciate our differences. We were created to be different, not carbon copies of one another. It is our differences that lead to strong social cultures, and prohibits small mindness.  Thwart defensiveness, it stalwarts creative and critical thinking skills. It halts progression.

thanks for sharing your story. eventhough at the police academy they teach and emphasize not to take anything personal, everytime i get dispatch to a call involving children, i think as a father and tend to forget that i'm wearing a badge. i have children of my own and i do take it personal when children are victims of crimes. good luck sister soon to be sister in blue.

Thank you ddeangelo.  Please do not misunderstand the essence of this forum.  Adults need to use prudence when discussing issues with children.  But the issues, such as character counts, conflict resolution, stranger awareness, etc.  do need to be discussed, just use appropriate child friendly language and explanations.

Thank you very much for sharing this about your life, I can't say I feel bad for your because you survived and became one helluva strong Lady with unquestionable strenght and character. I can say however I cried at this. I have a 10 year old daughter and only wish the perpatrators that did you and other children wrong I wish were in my crosshairs . But I know in the end God Will give them POSfully what they deserve! You are a very truely unique person and I can say you already have my respect (something I don't give easy or freely.) I am happy your a friend on PL again thank you for sharing this

God Bless you and may he always continue to have your back,

Keith

Thank you for your response KMueller.  We can talk and educate our children in a manner that increases their self worth and self confidence which makes them less vulnerable to unhealthy associations.

Thank you for yoru response rookiewanabee.  We need to teach our youth to have goals, goals that are short term, intermediate and long term. We need to teach and emulate how to attain those goals. Perseverance.   A positive and upbeat personality drives away negative feelings that hamper progress.

Thank you for your response sarge15mp.   Courage does not appear when we are feeling strong and capable, rather when we are feeling weak and vulnerable.

WOW!!!

I am speechless. I just can't begin to imagen what you have gone thru. You are truly a superb human being. I can't even begin to understand the inner strengh that you have, and to be an officer you have to have a certain amount of it and I think you have more than what is required of us to do this job every day. I strongly belief that you will make a great officer and I think that this would be a great opportunity for you to share your story with others that would most definitely benifit from your situation. I have 5 daughters of my own and the thought of someone doing any harm to them is by far my greatest fear. I pray every night for my little girls as well as for all those children of the World that are not as fortunate as mine tohave  parents that truly love them and protect them above all. I also thank God that I have a beautiful wife that is the best mother that I have ever known ( right next to my own of course). l thank you for being brave in sharing this story with others and if you ever need anything, you know where to find me. God bless you!!

Thank you for your heartfelt response Rodmanfl78.  Give our youth the social and life skills they need to weather the bumps in the road and they will go far.  It is not the academic education that helps us  through the crisis and unexpected events that happen in life...it is the emotional maturity that comes a steadfast "can do attitude.  It comes from an attitude that does not quit or give up when life throws us a curve ball.

I will say this when it comes to children

I believe when you become a parent to a child  you become a parent to all children....I firmly believe every adult out there should  listen to children...If you listen closely enough...You learn so much

Reading your post reminds me of a quote I read some years ago from Ben Okri, a Nigerian author and poet writing about  the violence that he experienced in his country.

“The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering.”

God bless you, and my wish of much success to you and your future endeavors.  You have a friend and supporter in Texas.
