Dear Sherry, after reading your story I'm compelled to reply but words fail me at this moment. Nothing I can say right now could ever express what I felt after reading of the ordeal you suffered as a child. All I can really say is that your courage and resielience is inspiring, and you can rest easy knowing that your place in heaven is assured because you have already experienced hell here on earth. God bless you with joy, happiness, and many long fullfilling years. Jay

sounds like me growing up, and begin to get conditioned to abusive patterns, till there is a readiness of enough is enough and there is a healthy anger drive to help stand up for oneself.  Lots of eye movement therapy brings freedom to calm the child within into a safe place with Jesus.  The internal family system works of having parts of each having their own story, and healing taking place.  Oh yes, the self esteem and confidence That only God gives to satisfy, nothing else brings acceptance of a sense of belonging. My heart goes out to all, and know there is always a way out to restructure and break out of abusive patterns. May God bless you all and thank you for wonderful officers with sensitive hearts.  Always had respect for police, growing up they always were at my place and the attention given was real,

Thank you for your responses servingwithpride, heavenbound, and Skyler24.

The fight for survival first begins within one's mind....thus the abuser's first attack mechanism is emotional and psychological abuse....wearing down one's reserves...using means such as sleep deprivation and wetting a person down and putting a fan on them, for just a couple examples.

Another tactic of the sadistic abuser, abusing one until unresponsive then "bringing them back" for more abuse and the scenario continues in a loop...attemtping to convey to the victim they can not predict when the abuse will end and when it will continue.  Predictablilty gives the victim an edge.....the benefit of preparing themselves...if not physically but mentally.  The abuser wants his victims to have no edge.

Knowledge is power...in any circumstance.  The sadistic abuser is cunning and smart....most sociopaths are quite intellectual...at least in some realms...they know exactly how to wear down a person's defenses.  I learned to read the faces of my perps....when they were going to put me "to sleep" and "wake me up again" ... and when it was really over.

Knowing anything about your perpetrator, even though you can not escape, gives you a psychological edge.  That edge is what keeps you fighting to win.  Strength comes from the inside.

Take care my friends,

Sherry

This makes me angry that sick people do these kinds of things to kids, that is why I want to become a police officer and stop scumbags like these. Sherry, I've met and seen some strong people; but you have shocked me with your unlimited amount strength in dealing with this. I salute you, ma'am  !!!!

Sincerely, Cadet Colonel Burt - JROTC

Thank you for your support Codeblue and I think many people working in service professions found their calling young in life due to some kind of difficult circumstance they either experienced themselves or witnessed.

No need to salute, just keep up the dedication and passion of contributing the best you have within you.

This is a great post! It shows that God really does watch over us!  My thought and prayers are with everyone who has had any type of abuse.  Abuse of people who are not physically strong enough to evade the abuse is the reason I am a police officer.  I AM HEAR TO HELP ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT!!!!!!  God Bless!

I would never have your strength.... I'de be too busy crying or getting pissed.  I worked a case about 10 years ago;  satanic ritual....  The child, age 2 was branded with the pentegram symbol by his father...   How blessed you are to have such compassion and strength.

Hey there, I don't know you personally but after a story like that how could I not want to hug you. Your story is moving and inspiring to me. As a new officer in any agency I am sure you are going to do great things. The gift I see that you have been given at bit=rth or sometime throughout your life is "agape" love. That means unconditional and I have only ever thought that of two other women in my life. One is my mother and the other my wife. You have a special gift to be able to put yourself in somebody else's shoes and help them overcome any and every adversary they may face. If no one has ever told you that they are proud of who you are please allow me to be the first. Be careful out there and keep me updated with your job progress please.

WOW UNIMAGIONABLE!!!!!!!!! It really makes you wonder how God can give children to people like that but refueses (or takes) them from people who will love them with everything... People who will go to the ends of the world for their children,,, Do what ever it takes to protect them and sometimes even lay their lives on the line for them???????? WHY????????

Sherry,

I thank you for sharing your story. It brought me to tears. I have also endured abuse however mine was not nearly  to the extent of the abuse you endured. I grew up in a very physically abusive home and I was the scape goat. I'm also using that for good to pursue a career in LE. I'm very proud to see that when people are put in a bad situation they can turn it around and use it for positive.

I am speechless.  All I can say is you are proof that people who have endured great pain and torture, can spin it in to something extremely positive.  My heart goes out to you, may god bless you and keep you safe out there.

I truly admire your courage to speak of your experience. I've counselled victims of sexual abuse, and the most important thing is to make sure the victim understands that he or she has done nothing wrong. The outcome of your story gives me hope for others I've known, for in most cases, sexual abuse takes a lifetime to overcome. My best to you and those you love.

Thank you bsears, southern83fire, and devolver I very much agree that one of the most devastating and lasting features of violence of any kind  is the effect of the psychological abuse...and one of the things I stress when talking to victims of abuse is that they are not to blame and they in no way deserved the abuse dealt them.

I can't think of any more henious crime than that of abust to a child. I can say that it is a vcious cycle that is heralded as one of the hardest to treat with psychologist. But I have an alternative. Forgive and turn to the God of your creation and know that their day is coming and it will be by the same God who created the earth and all living things. If they chose this path after hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and denying that God's only son went through the most dispicable pieces of so called human flesh in order to bring us back into reconciliation with God our Creator. they will suffer through out eternity in darkness and wratth that was created for the satan and his fallen angles and it was their CHOICE.  Every child that has suffered at the hands of evil doers is now in the presence of  our Savior who is comming again and that day will be to set up as His Kingdom comes into place and He will say.to those who are casts down before Him."DEPART, FROM ME, I NEVER KNEW YOU."
