I was assigned to 77adam on friday jan 13th 1973 doing a day tour with vinnie stackhouse (det. ret.). vinnies partner and mine were in court so they teamed us up for the day, it was right near the end of the shift when over the drone of the radio runs came a hold up alarm at john and als sporting goods store in the 90 pct.. 

A precinct unit picked up the call and the radio droned on for moments till a voice gasping for breath  and to the background of shots going off screams: 10-13  10-13 shots fired, officer shot, broadway and mrytle.  And thus began a gunbattle and 47 hour seige with one cop killed and two other wounded..Five members of what was described as an ORTHODOX MUSLIM SECT, had entered  the gun store to rob it of its high power weapons and ammo and during the ensuing gunbattle, easily outgunned us using the weapons from the store.

POLICE OFFICER STEVEN GILROY WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY. steve was trying to lay down cover fire so we could rescue the many pinned down and wounded officers. POLICE OFFICER FRANK CARPENTIER, A REALLY COOL COP, WAS CRITICALLY WOUNDED AND JOE OR JOSE ADORNO WAS WOUNDED IN THE ARM. more than 700 nypd were involved in this seige.  These self-described "servants of allah" vowed to have nothing to lose and victory and paradise to gain. 

That was the first time the nypd rolled out the tank for the pinned down officer rescue. in the end, the hostages escaped through an old hidden staircase to the roof while the perps were distracted and with no hostages to hide behind and nypd waiting for the word to assault to get payback; the four surrendered. abdul rasheem, salih ali abdullah, dawd ar-rahm, and yusef abdul who was wounded during the initial gunbattle.  all were charged and convicted of murder of a police officer... visit officer gilroys site at NYPD ANGELS.  This was just one of the opening battles i was in... there were more.

Unfortunately these are just the types of extremists that have multiplied tenfold in the ensuing years and are now a threat to every civilized country in the world.  The 9-11 Hijackers were the fruit of the actions of these men, and men like them, who have, over the years, hijacked airliners during the 70's and 80's, hijacked the Cruise Ship Achille Lauro, blown up an airliner over Scotland, murdered Israeli Olympic Athletes, blown up passenger trains in Spain, blown up a bus and subway station in London, and numerous other terroristic acts.

Until we, and I mean all of us, understand that these people have but one goal, to eliminate our way of life, then we will continue to live in fear of their potential actions.  We must stop being a "Paper Tiger" and react swiftly and violently to any and all acts of terrorism. 

The recent U.S. raid into Syria to take out a suspected Terrorist is one small step in the right direction.  I watched TV tonight as the Syrian politicians expressed their shock and dismay at the actions of the U. S. military in conducting this raid.  Some have demanded an "Investigation" and an "Apology" from the U.S. Governmant.  From my perspective Syria deserved neither.  They have sat idley by for the past several years as Al Qaeda and other radical extremist groups use their border areas with Iraq as a training and staging ground for raids into Iraq to attack and kill American troops.  If the Syrians won't take any action to stop this activity then it is incumbent upon our military to strike and eradicate these threats to our way of life.  The same masage needs to be sent to other countries that harbor such terrorists too.

yup, and it aint gonna get better any time real soon, but part of the theme for this story is that it took place omg 35 years ago? i'm  getting f--kin old, in brooklyn ny, not kandahar, beirut, or sadar city.  when the next round of shots are fired, watch this homegrown terrorist network closely friends...be on alert on special occasions, anniversaries of events,  could you imagine a group or groups tryin to disrupt the us elections?   cant be done?  you know better.  they tried and succeded in spain.  i'm not talking about the two idiot skinheads after obama here....i almost went on a rant but had to delete due to non leo's reading these sites.
