| Posted almost 6 years ago That's weird.....did you have to buy one at your previous agency and just still have it? Does it have decals, lights, spot light etc...? (Look at TX PC 37.11 and 37.12) I would definitely say that it's not worth trying....for two reasons: 1. If a citizen thinks it's real and they do some act or omission thinking you are in fact a peace officer (with backing of an agency) you "could" be liable. It actually depend on the incident and how good the officer articulates their report. Also it's way too dangerous.....there's some people out there that are on their last limb and God forbid one of them come up to you wanting to do "Suicide by Cop..." thinking that's what you are........that's even if you have a gun to protect yourself... 2. If you did get stopped by a LEO driving that and you tell them that you're not currently a cop....they will have nothing but negative thoughts.....for example, "WHY is a civilian driving a car that looks or resembles a police car?" I would have to say.......sale it, because it's no good to drive as a non-certified person and the agency you go with will not like you driving it.........if not ORDER you to not drive it Hope that helped.... |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Cecilia,
I bought two of my old crusiers. One is currently being transformed into a chevy caprice SS and will bear the Car54 plates that I had on it for shows(department permission). If you enjoy the car then keep it. If not sell it to a cab company for premium price. ( I know this because I am in charge of disposing our vehicles) |

| Posted almost 6 years ago What do you have? I had an '88 cruiser that'd been beefed up BEYOND the police package with a 'Vette engine & tranny... I was able to use it as an "authorized emergency vehicle" when responding to a call from my residence, etc. I was on call 24/7 with a V.F.D.... slick-top unmarked, just a push bumper, spot light and grill/deck lights. There's a BUNCH of "ifs" and "whats" here, though... is it marked in any way? If there are lights (other than the spotlight) I'd DEFINATELY remove them, but there's old cruisers, some still with the spot and/or push bumpers on them, running around here that have been purchased at police auctions... |

| Posted almost 6 years ago In our area they remove the light bars and decals and then sell them to the public. I would check the laws in your area. I agree with what others have said, keep it if it has senimental value, but if you are going to put it on the road remove markings to show it as a police car so you don't have any issues driving it. |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Why would ANYONE want to drive a patrol car if they were a police officer anymore, unless it was for a parade? Or it was a restored 56 Chevy police car, etc.????? |

| Posted almost 6 years ago In the State of Florida Police department and sheriff departments auction their vehicles to the public all the time, the only sad thing is that they get to keep the syncronized transmission and good old v8 engine that makes us proud when we are out there., |

| Posted almost 6 years ago I would use caution driving it with decals and lights. You could find yourself between a rock and a hard place. I dont know the town your in, but you could be ambushed or charged upon by someone wanting to commit suicide by cop. I really dont think it would be safe. |
