Posted over 4 years ago Our department is getting a new station built within the next year in the lower level of a parking structure on campus. We know what we are wanting in it (a workout room, holding area,.etc.) But if you were building a new station what would you want? Personally I'd like a hottub The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.--Thucydides-- |

| Posted over 4 years ago My wish list: All the following areas would remain private, and only officers, staff and family may go: Patrol room would continued to have our own desk, with data terminals or wireless router access for laptops for each desk. We currently are set up for desk tops only....but the computers were removed....don't ask me why. Workout area with PRIVATE showers. Temp. secure holding areas. CSI Room Special Team/SWAT Room(we were talking about setting one up). Lounge, sofa, fridge, stove, and the works! Key card, or thumb scanners for LEO's and staff. No more freaking keys!

| Posted over 4 years ago I myself am a conservative and would rather spend funds improving and rewarding employees than buying a bunch of unnecessary crap. I read all of the previous posts here and sadly, all of the things you’ve posted we have… and then some. This will make you sick! We just got a new grandiose 3 floor monstrous department last Nov. I have 1 or 2 pics of the outside on my page. The original budget was $19 million, but after cut backs it was finished at $12.5 million we lost the underground employee parking garage. We managed to wrap a $4.5 million 700 / 800 MHz digital radio and communications upgrade into it. We can now talk with all other valley agencies. We have the card access crap at the department and across the university. We have a fitness center and separate lockers with private showers and handicap accessible ones too. We have 14 male and female restrooms. We have 6 desk top PC’s for report writing at the dept, and 5 substations across campus with PC’s as well. We have MDT's with all the bells and whistles on a wireless system. We have mapping software… serious overkill our campus in big, but not that big. We have a huge break room with a stove, fridge, full size freezer, ice machine, dishwasher, a couple microwaves, a toaster, a toaster oven, and full size sink. We have 5 conference rooms and a separate “premier conference room.” We have a DT room, 2 classrooms, a huge bicycle maintenance and storage room, and huge ass flat screens in briefing, dispatch, and the classrooms. I think they are 50 inchers… dispatch actually has 2, 1 for the cctv and 1 with satellite. We have multiple interview rooms, with mics and cameras. We have a high-speed booking area with 6 cells and two more interview rooms. We have a double car sally port and a fenced parking area with electronic gates. We have multiple security cameras in booking, holding, the lobby and other sensitive areas around the department. But that's our chiefs gig. He is consumed with the "bling" envy, spends way too much money on it, and can't afford to give raises to our officers. So we look high-speed, but it's a sham. We are the second lowest paid agency in the valley, the community college guys beat us, but we beat out the capitol police. We don't even have an OT budget... we get comp time instead, not to exceed 40 hours, and barley enough staffing to take time off even to attend training if we are lucky enough to find something free to go to. I would gladly thin out the excess bling. Maybe we should start posting it on eBay and passing the profit around. Any bidders? Seriously, do any of you think a university police department really needs license plate readers? We have two, $40K a pop. We have ICOP audio / video records in all of our cars. We have GPS tracking on each of our vehicles so I think selling those may not be too wise. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I wouldn't approach it as much as a wish list as a "must have" list. Lockers and showers are very nice to have, especially for officers who don't like to wear their uniform to/from work, or have some place to go after work and need to change. They are also good if an officer becomes victim of an overzealous officer who has a happy OC spray trigger finger. A workout area is nice, but most campuses have a gym that officers can utilize, so it would be wasted space (not to mention, usually about 1% of the department work out on a regular basis). A good evidence room (not a locker and a bin) is almost a necessity now and allows for more controlled access. A book in/processing room is nice as well. Be sure to add enough room to manuver around. Every prisoner processing room I've ever been in seemed like a broom closet. Finally, the last two things I would ensure is adequate work space and a training room. If you can't get individual offices, then at least get a work room with individual desks and/or cubicles to add a little bit of privacy. For a training room (or conference room), make it large enough to get the whole department in there, and have a computer/PC and other training aids either prewired in or allow for ample room. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I know there are a lot of must haves...I'm goin for the fun side of this. If you had money to burn, what would you want? I still want the hottub, but gettin it is about as likely as finding necessary training in Hawaii..... BTW, CampusCopAZ you totally suck! I'm jealous now The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.--Thucydides-- |

| Posted almost 4 years ago How about a secure location to take our familys when we are out working during a natural desaster. We refuse to subject them to the "Shelter life" and have to worry about them while we are out there helping others. Would be grand. -Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather being scared to death and charging in anyway! "John Wayne"

I see another officer spending more time at the station then at home. I had all my mail forwarded to my office at work so this would be great. We run to the sound of the guns. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Anything that's more updated that one of the oldest dorms on campus. Seriously, this building used to be the old private girls' dorm, IN THE FORTIES. We smell smoke from old wiring at least once a week, you have to walk a suspect all the way to the rear of the building to our offices for holding. Our evidence locker is actually an old appropriated US Mailbox. At this point, we need about 2 million dollars in funding to get our department to the point it truly needs to be at. But, being the smallest state campus in Louisiana (with the highest crime), that isn't going to happen. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Being at a small department, surprisingly we have many of the things others have mentioned. Heck, we even have a fireplace! Sure the work-out area could be bigger, and the locker room could use some carpet. What I'd like to see is a cruiser with 4-wheel drive and a second officer on patrol overlapping 2nd and 3rd shift. |
