Posted over 4 years ago PHOENIX - The following is a press release from the Attorney General's Office: Attorney General Terry Goddard announced that Jason John Keller, 34, of Tempe, was charged today with one count of conspiracy to commit promoting prison contraband, three counts of promoting prison contraband and three counts of assisting a criminal street gang. Keller is a defense attorney practicing in Arizona. According to court documents, Keller, on at least three separate occasions this year, allegedly smuggled heroin, a cell phone and cell phone charger into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail. Keller allegedly provided the smuggled items to inmates, some of whom are members of a violent criminal street gang. At least one of the inmates is known to be Keller’s client. Keller was charged by direct complaint in Maricopa County Superior Court earlier today. A preliminary hearing on the case will occur within 10 days. <!-- vstory end --><!-- VELOCIT CONTENT ENDS HERE! --> |

| Posted over 4 years ago We strip all inmates who come in contact with civillains during visits. That includes the Parole Board, Lawyers, Religious, etc. I also stick the lawyer/client in one of the side rooms where they're in view of a camera (no sound). I've found many inmates have been given paperclips by the lawyer to keep their legal paperwork together. We also banned all cell phones from coming into the secure part of the facility. This changed when we had one dumba$$ detective come in to interview an inmate He was asked if he had a cell phone and said no. He had one and realized it was missing 30 minutes after he left. We had to shake down the facility and luckily found it quickly. We hold their coats, phones and such in our visiting control room. If the lawyer comes in alot, they know to walk in with nothing. I'd like it to change it so that lawyers must successfully pass the metal detector, but no one want to "upset" a lawyer. |
