As a former Marine and current Law Enforcement Officer I say "THANK YOU" and I wish the same for all others. Matthew 5:9 says, "Blessed are the peacemeakers, for they will be called the sons of God."

Here are prayers we used in the service yesterday at my church, and at the nursing home service. I hope no one minds my posting them-- I would welcome similar prayers from other faith traditions as well.

Here they are:

Almighty and everlasting God, in whom all souls live now and evermore, the God not of the dead but of the living; we bless you for all those who have faithfully lived and died in the service of their country. As we ever hold them in grateful remembrance, in your love and mercy let light perpetual shine upon them, and bring us all at last into your eternal kingdom of peace; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

O eternal God, through whose mighty power our fathers and mothers won their liberties of old: we thank you for all your servants who have laid down their lives to defend your gift of freedom. Grant, we beseech you, that we, and all the people of this land, may be ready to follow their examples of courage and loyalty, and may have grace to maintain our liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
