I was wondering if patrol officers in civilian LE can choose what kind of footwear they can use on-duty. I've seen patrolman in dress shoes as part of their uniform and that doesn't seem to be a good match for the type of work we do. In the military of course boots are always part of our uniform.

Depends upon the Department, some require certain footware, others are more flexible.

I wear boots for day to day wear and Patton leather for Class "A". All of the agencies in my area seem to be the same.

Wear my boots all the time. I have shined up Danners for Class A days and Oakleys for everyday wear. I love boots for work

I have been a boot wearer my whole career.  Boots in the field whilst kicking booty and shiny clarino leather shoes in court or dress functions.

Bates make a GREAT Patton Leather boot.  It's light weight and breathes easily.  I still have mine and have had them for 3 years now.  They get scuffed from time to time but Windex works fine for most teeth marks on them.

If I have offended anyone, so be it.

There is a choice with the balance of officers wearing boots.

Most I work with wear boots; I wear 6" 5.11 ATAC boots. I can't see how anyone would run very well in dress shoes if you get in a chase.

Boot, had every brand.  I always go back to the Rocky 911.  Very comfortable, like wearing tennis shoes.  Plus they are the 8", so you can wear your backup comfortably.  I used them when I was a patrol officer and still wear them today doing entries.
