Citizen... you are born in America.
Permanent Resident... you pay the Immigration every 10 yrs to renew your rights to work in America.
I have worked for a Local PD in TX straight out of High School... I was just 19... (keep in mind I have been a Permanent Resident "Green Card" since 1999) after 9/11 much have changed... I was young then not realizing how much I really wanted to be in the force... I married at young age... after I divorced I realized how much I have to offer the Force... for the past 5 yrs I have been trying to change my Citizenship to protect and serve again... what is your opinion about having to be an American Citizen for Local and Federal Law Enforcement Jobs?

It should be on an individual basis after much background investigation and research. Definitely not an ol' "if you meet this requirements A, B, and C....then you can have citizenship....." But that's my opinion......and for what it's worth I think there are a few out there that could benefit everyone...........5yrs? When you get it, at least you can say you earned it.........goodluck

TAT2 makes a great point... it should be individual background checks
