Posted almost 5 years ago Hello, My name is Kathleen. I became a first time dispatcher with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office here in Alabama back in early 2006. As long as I can remember since I was a teenager in crisis myself, I've wanted to be present, to offer compassion, solace, and direct assistance to another at a critical juncture in their lives, perhaps even their darkest hour. For reasons I won't go into here, I lacked the confidance to pursue that initially in my youth. My life subsequently took a myriad of turns, but a layoff a few years ago forced me to re-evaluate what I wanted my future to become, what did I envision? And when I took an introspective look within, I found the dream from long ago to be still alive, still percolating just beneath the surface, ready to evolve into actuality. I came here hoping to find maybe some additional tools and/or resources other than what my agency provides to perhaps gain some perspective, feedback, and/or practical application on how I might evolve into a better dispatcher. I would just cringe to think of being lesser than what my fellow travelers in law enforcement deserve. I want to grow (preferably not in a horizontal direction-and yes, that was a self deprecating fat joke!)...seriously, I would love to take classes and learn foreign languages like Spanish and sign, specialize in areas of trauma. Now that I am not so new to dispatching that it would be unwise, I am looking into volunteering in a neighboring county at their crisis center. Wish me luck that I am accepted! OK...anyone that gets to know me undoubtedly learns quickly that my passions in my life are my furr-babies Rye and Whisper, my nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, traveling, music, theatre, festivals, yoga, white water rafting, quotes, stories/mythology/folklore. I am a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen and The Heart Stoppin, Pants Droppin, Earth Quakin', Booty Shakin', Viagra Takin', Love Makin', History Makin' Legendary E STREET BAND! I can't wait for the U2 Tour to start, but I'm all over the board musically. I just returned from a 2 week vacation in Spain. I've been to Ireland twice, Scotland, Amsterdam, and my dream place to go one day is New Zealand. Well, I've blathered enough. Hope to make some new friends. I love meeting people from all walks of life. I have two buzzwords that I usually use: Woot! and Craptastic! The others are not printable...LOL! Safe journeys to all, Kathleen

| Posted almost 5 years ago Hi Kathleen--Welcome to Police Link. Enjoy the site. A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
