Could Hate Crimes Legislation Mean Jail Time forChristians?

Consider the following:

In October 2004,11 Christians were arrested, charged with a hate crime, and spent a night in jail for preaching at a homosexualpride event in Philadelphia. The “Philadelphia 11” ultimately faced up to 47 years behind bars and $90,000 in fines.

In 1996, Wisconsin resident David Ott was charged with a hate crime after he attempted to share with a homosexual howGod delivered him from the lifestyle. Ott escaped a jail sentence only at great personal cost, $7,000 dollars in legal fees and sensitivitytraining conducted by two lesbians.

In 2004, Swedishauthorities arrested and charged Ake Green, a pastor, with a hate crime. He faced a month-long sentence. His crime? Greenpreached a sermon based on Romans 1, which condemns homosexuality.

I guess one day, I'll be a jail bird, because I will preach the truth regardless of the consequences.

Justin ~  you totally crack me up.  lmao    I agree with the charges, of hate crimes for these people.  Freedom of religion also means Freedom FROM religion.  if your religion doesn't believe in XYZ doesn't mean that the rest of us should be subject to your believes.

ie. having laws based on those beliefs such as same sex marriage.

I'd like to point out that the Big 10 (my person name) didn't say anything about homosexuality being aganist the laws of God.  Gonna get a lot of hate mail for that one.  but it's my take on the issue.

First: I already know you aren't Catholic, so what are you?

Second: What truth?

The truth that most Christian's who aren't Catholic are batshit insane?

Well what better place to put busy body christians that feel the over powering need to "speak the truth" to homosexuals than a prison, lots of sodomy going on there, so really it's two birds with one stone, Jesus is found in prison, and so is homosexual activity.

Well I am not Catholic thank Goodness but do consider myself a Christian, just basically having my own beliefs, much of which does not happen to follow the Bible. ANY radical religion can be pretty dangerous IMHO. Now while I really don't give a rip if someone is Homo, Hetro, or Bi or Asexual, as long as they do not try and insist that I should be the same way or suffer violence. I can't see how someone saying his religion says that Homosexuality is wrong should have to go to prison for it. That's just a belief as far as I can tell. Now if they said that they need to go out and grab all them there faggots and lesbos and string 'em up and/or burn them at the stake, then yeah, now they need to be charged with disorderly conduct and if they act on that belief then yes hate crime. I am just a simple Protestant who thinks I should be allowed to my own beliefs and left alone and that you should also be left alone.

Well said Robocop.  The question begs to be asked whatever happened to tolerance?  Providing they are not hurting other people or breaking any laws, then what folk do is their business isn't it?

I'm a Christian. If you are referring to denomination, I'm Southern Baptist. As far as the truth, it's the truth that homosexuality is a sin. If believing what the Bible says makes me insane, then I'm gulity as charged.

Southern Baptist... well damn! Your group TRUMPS the Apeshit Hall of Fame, Sgt!!

WHY, WHY, WHY is being gay a sin? WHY?!

You believe in the Bible huh... well yeah, I believe in the Burker King menu so I guess that makes us equal. The equal part being that the Bible was written by men and it comes in 300 different versions... so just like Burger King.

YOU CAN HAVE IT YOUR WAY!

What exactly about the bible do you believe in? I believe in the Bible... I believe that it is a book that is mass produced by the millions every year, that it's placed in most roach motel room, that people use it to smoke all types of different things... kinda makes it a holy smoke eh? I guess that's where the phrase comes from!! ( To think, that sentence was totally by accident!! LOL )

Did you ever wonder if and why Sodomites and Sodomize is/are based off the same word? Hmmm.

I'm a heathen so I'm safe! But I am fairly confident that those arrested did a little more that "preach" to those individuals. I personally find it offensive when someone tries to ram religion down my throat. I choose not to believe so why can't I be left alone if this is my choice? There are three sides to every story and I somehow feel we are only getting one from the first post.

I went to Prestigious Catholic Schools my entire life and as each year went by. I believed in ORGANIZED RELIGION, less and less.

Do I believe in God? Yes.

Do I understand why you, generally speaking, pyscho XXXXXXX "Christians" are probably hands down the BIGGEST HYPOCRITICAL BULLSHIT ARTISTS on the face of this planet... moreso then POLITICIANS!! Now THAT is saying something!!

Do I understand why you Christians think you have the right to tell a woman what she can and can not do with her body?

Do I understand why Christians think they can tell EVERYONE what is right and what is wrong?

Do I understand why Christians believe that it is ok to commit every sin in the book, as long as they go to Sunday Church every week and go to Confession once a month?

Do I understand why Christians are AGAINST STEM CELL RESEARCH? How they rather save a CELL and let millions of people die? Do Christians understand the amount of things that Stem Cell Research can do for this world? For LIVING, BREATHING, PEOPLE... GOD FEARING, CHRISTIAN PEOPLE?!?! IDIOTS.

I don't think this is quite what the lawmakers had in mind when they created hate crime laws. The arrest should never have happened.

Well someone just didn't have a good enough attorney, as far as I knew freedom of speech and right to assemble were still alive and well. The town I live in removed some protesters and it cost them $100,000.00 in damages for violating their rights. I say preach on regardless of the topic.

We have gotten off the point which is should people be put in jail for expressing their beliefs.

I did not post this to start a debate on religion or even morality, personally I don;t care about a persons private life, religious or sexual.

If we allow prison time for people like GOODLIGHT whats next, ten years for saying the presidents coat doesn't match!

Make no mistake we are on a slippery slope and hate filled comments about ANY religion that teaches love is contraproductive!!!!!!!!!!!!

Easy there, you're stepping into a sensetive area. I am Christian and NOT against stem cell research AND HAVE A LOT OF DIFFERENT VIEWS THAN WHAT YOU HAVE STEREOTYPED, don't lump everyone into one category. If you prefer to believe something else I may not agree with it but I wont disrespect it.

Excuse me Mike... when you people APOLOGIZE to the hundreds of thousands if not MILLIONS of people, both past, present and future who could have benefited from STEM CELL RESEARCH, the words: I APOLOGIZE will NEVER be uttered out of my mouth!

As my friend KSP just stated, we have this thing called FREEDOM OF SPEECH... and being that I served my country HONORABLY in the United States Marine Corps, being that I took a bullet for my country while fighting for it's citizens BELIEFS... both legal and ILLEGAL citizens, LMAO, and continued on with my service as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, I do have the extreme right to express my thoughts.

If Christians feel they have the right to MURDER HUMAN FARKING BEINGS because they feel that a damn CELL is God's Child, then I certainly have the right to speak about it.

Respectfully,

Justin
