Hello all, and thank you in advance for taking the time to view this post.  I currently have about 8 years of active duty military service, with 1 year left to go on my contract.  In addition to my Military service I also have 3 years experience in private security, and I am currently working part time Loss Prevention for the Sears & Holding Corporation, and I come from a family chalked full of LEO's.  I should also have my associates degree by the time I get out of the Military, and I am a Nationally Registered EMT.  With all of that being said, I know that the Texas State Troopers are hiring, more importantly they are going to be hurting in regards to staffing in the near future due to retirements and what not(not sure if thats good or bad though).  I was just wondering if it is a good department to work for; if there are any officers from PoliceLink currently employed with this department, and if I fit the basic profile for someone this department would generally hire.  Thanks again for any and all responses, and information or advice offered.

Respectfully Submitted,

HM2(FMF) Nathaniel "Doc" Thomas

Doc,

While you can't go wrong with the DPS here in Texas, for my experience and interaction with the many Troopers I am proud to call my friends, have you considered a local police department?  The City of Killeen, right outside of Fort Hood, is a rapidly growing area, rated number 6 in the Nation as most affordable place to live.  The department is really growing, as is the local area.  Check out their webiste for some of the departments info, killeenpd.com

Good luck, they are hard to get with. Several Officers with a local agency have tried many times to get on with them, with no success.

Doc,

I'm with the Tx DPS, and have been for a little over 13 years. If you want an agency that has great oprotunities for premotion, DPS is the way to go. If you have a tendency to want to move around there is no better agency.

DPS can be difficult to get into, but preserverience and a good background go along way.

Sorry about the spelling, I usually have spell check.

Be Safe and good luck. If I can help just let me know.
