Posted almost 5 years ago Looking to get input on the Dept's that get the benefit (atleast I hope) of using Tasers in their facilities. How is this tool helping in your Dept. Even though California seems to lead the way in corrections (only an opinion), they still in my opinion are behind the times in many ways when it comes to gear. IE.....tasers, electric shields for cell extractions ect... We do not carry tasers in our Dept, and I feel that we should. The more tools you have in your tool box can only help with the proper training. Training is another issue, especially with our budget situation here in CA, you know we love to lead the way. LOL

Posted almost 5 years ago Not only training...but a lot of our inmates aren't "cleared" to have OC used on them. A lot of them has respritory issues and, therefor, medical makes the determination if OC can be used on them or not...I'm sure CA is like that as well since CA is probably the most liberal state in the US. Having said that...what DO you guys use when OC is not an option? We use the IED shields...

Posted almost 5 years ago Since CA is probably the most liberal state in the U.S. you would think they would just hug the bad guys join hands and sing kumbaya.

You might need a bigger tool box for those bear hugs. |

Posted almost 5 years ago Everyone who comes through our academy either sworn or detentions is trained on Taser. Heck, even our civilain "non-compensated" employees who assist the deputies have the option to be trained on tasers. For the most part the paper work that comes after the use is enough to keep most of us from "clearing leather" many times. But even then the paper work is only a use of force explaining the situation, and a short incident report that covers all of the details. Although we have responded to fights (ussually with tasers out) and the presence has made a huge difference. We are ussually on the cutting edge gear wise (first to approve Kimbers JPX lifeact) and while a lot of it is useful, good ole fashion hands on is still ussually our number one option.

Posted almost 2 years ago In my jail new DO's have to wait 6 months before they can train for the taser, and they have to test out on jail policies and protocol before the LT will sign off on taser training. I am taser trained and let me tell you, just having that tool on your duty belt its night and day on how inmates treat and respond to your orders, epecially in the housing unit.
