Well I'm gonna be completely honest here and voice my opinion!! I have tremendous respect for all of Law Enforcement from town to county to state to federal. There are thousands upon thousands of incredible officers nationwide. I totally agree with this young lady. Officers risk thier lives everyday to protect and serve. It's thier passion and thier calling and thier desire and career!!!! It's sad to say there are some that don't deserve to wear the badge. Those are the ones that need to be taken away from Law Enforcement. They abuse thier responsibilitiesand power. I can't stand a crooked cop. But aside from that Give these officers what they deserve for putting thier life on the line daily. They never know what they're gonna be facing on any given day. The world is getting worse all the time.  My prayer dailly is for God to keep you guys safe so you can go home after your shift to be with your family! Be safe and alert always!!!!!!!!!!!

This is truly a very beautiful letter written by a very mature girl. Not only is she respectful but she demonstrates her understanding of many issues some adults don't seem to now a days. You must be proud to have raised an amazing girl like her and I tip my hat off to you for doing so. Just like your daughter points out, thank you for serving on this courageous and hardworking line of duty. Hope all is well and stay safe!

Very good and true letter. She has a very good head on her shoulders. God Bless you and your family and maybe someday she will be in a position of power so she can get some things done for LEO's as well as help the rest of the world.

Wow.  There's not much that I can say, other than "wow".  It's rather hard to believe that came from a 10 year old.  As someone said on the first page of replies, the government will never reply, which is a shame.

Sir you should be very proud to have a child to speak up for you and those like you in the LE community. Very well put! There are ppl out there in private security that don't have no where near as much training as LE but they still act as partners to you local, state, and federal agencies puting they're lives on the line for peanuts. The President needed to do more then sending some thank you card. A visit would've been more respected at that point.

All I got to say is well done young lady! Wish there were more than just a few like you. And gonna thank you for taking care of you dad because we need and those like to care for those that don't care for themselves.

Incredibly astute. I'm impressed with her eloquence. Out of the mouths of babes comes some of the most profound wisdom.

I am amazed by this letter. She has great respect for Leo's and hopefully our government will consider giving the same respect.

One word... THIS!

Funny how the only enumerated right that contains the phrase "shall not be infringed" suffers the heaviest regulation. I'm still trying to find where it says anything about hunting and targets.

She makes an excellent point. When parts of a major US city are more dangerous than the combat zone in Iraq and Afganastan you really can't say that police are not warriors in the same sense as our military all of which are fighting for our freedoms.

LaDET says ...

This is a letter my daughter sent to the President April  2001

She totally amazed me with her words and concern for Law Enforcement Members.

Dear President Bush

My name is _____ K___ and I am 10 years old. I am the daughter of a police detective and was wondering why doesn’t government recognize police as they do war veterans. I truly respect all war veterans of this country as well as all police in this country. I find it difficult that this country doesn’t provide medical services for the police in the same way it does our veterans. It would be nice for our country to respect the police the same way as it does our heros of all wars for this country. The police fight a daily war on our streets and many lose their lives or are injured in the line of duty. War is declared when our military fights for our country and nothing is ever declared when the police fight for our communities, cities and states. There are thousands of police who lost their lives fighting for the rights of our people.

Mr. President please help our police departments with providing a United States Law Enforcement Veterans Organization, which can provide medical assistance for our heros in this great country.

I am in no way comparing the veterans of war to the police, but I believe that the police are also veterans of war in our communities.

I don’t believe that there is much difference in the types of war that the police and veterans have fought and are still fighting, but the war on our streets will never end. The police will continue to fight for our wellbeing and our rights for protection against the criminals in this country.

I would be very pleased if you, Mr. President, would help our police with medical assistance in the same way as our great country does for our war heros.

Mr. President, my dad is a single parent who raises me and my 14 year old brother and works many of overtime hours to pay our bills and protects our Great State of Louisiana.

It would be nice if our country would show more respect for men and women that serve in our GREAT AMERICAN COUNTRY!

Sincerely

_____ K___

PS….PLEASE READ THIS LETTER AND THANK YOU

GOD BLESS THE USA

I have to say that i do agree with her, i am currently seeking jobs in the law enforcment, but i am also in the us army, and i belive that she is bring up some good points, i think that it is funny that at that age she is thinking about that, gd bless you and your family and keep up the work

What your daughter did was amazing.  People twice her age could not write like that or have the courage to stand up for something like that.  I know you are proud of her.  I pray that I have a child as smart and brave as yours.

God Bless

I absolutely agree 100% with her. I mean in war, our military basically knows who the bad guy is, what weapons they might have, and at least a little info on the situation unfolding, where as Police arrive on a volitile/crazy situation with little or no info on anyone yet, and the added not knowing if its the victim or the bad guy if thier armed or not, to me thats worth medical, dental etc whatever . Our military AND police both put thier lives on the line, protect us. To me theres a saying that reminds me of our police/military and it goes " When a friend needs help, there is no tommorrow!" This should already be available to all Police- no questions/ no discussions.
