| Posted over 2 years ago I read this letter for the first time about the time you posted it originally. Still to this day it causes a lump in my throat to think that a young girl wrote this on her own. I have forwarded it to a couple of our local legislators and have not received any kind of reply, surprisingly. I once again would like to thank this child for having our backs. Thank You very much, you are truly a friend to the LEO's in this country and I hope that you will continue on with your fight. I was just wondering if you have attempted to send this to President Obama just to see what kind of reply you would receive from him. |

| Posted over 2 years ago I have sent it to the new president as well as numerous politicians. The thing that shocked me is when I sent it to the FOP and did not even receive a response. The only response that she received was a thank you card and kids pack from President Bush. |

| Posted over 2 years ago What an impressive little lady. I would have to say as a war veteran and a cop that there is no reason not to compare the two. There is a war going on on our streets as well as overseas and all you have to do is look at the officer down posts and you will see that. The problem is that the military is federally funded and police are locally funded. If you work for a small department or a large department in an economicaly depressed area then the resources are tight and health care is one of the costliest benefit and the costs are going up every year. Hopefully someone will come up with a solution that doesn't include the government running it. (When was the last time that the government ran anything within budget?) I don't have the answer, but something needs to be done. Well said honey, you should also send a letter to President Obama also. Maybe he will get his head on straight and come up with a better solution than his current plan. A citizen who shirks his duty to contribute to the security of his community is little better than the criminal who threatens it. |

| Posted over 2 years ago LaDet, you've got yourself one gem of a kid! Not only does she show a maturity way beyond her age but an eloquency that would silence some college students into shame. And she is right! I am always amazed at how low your salaries are compared to what we ask from you. We ask you to get up every day to serve and protect us, to jump in front of us when we get attacked, to back us up in a fight, to run into the arms of disaster to rescue us, and to remain positive, upbeat and civil. But we do not pay you the respect of a decent salary and pension. We do not relieve your headaches by providing adequate health care that includes dental and vision and let's not even touch on the subjects of maternity leave or psychological care!!! In short, we do not serve you nor do we protect you. But still you are there when we call 911 and I thank you for that. |

| Posted over 2 years ago I am touched as I have just finished reading this letter and as a retired member of our Armed Forces I am proud of the feeling from a special lady to our Commander-In-Chief! A police department is both a professional and military organization, and these two aspects oppose each other. As a professional, our officers considered to be experts in their field and expected to use their expertise for the good of the public. Officer discretion in how we serve the people who call upon us. However, the dangers and complexities of the work require a military structure of the organization and a military leaning in the training. Although most of us are well educated, all police officers are well trained. Policies, regulations, and procedures cover every facet of police work. Everything is expected to be done by the book with substantial repercussions, including civil and criminal liability, for varying from the expectations of operating procedures. Often the facts of a situation require a course of action that does not follow procedures. If we follow procedures exactly, we know we won't fully help the public, and the public will think we are shirking our responsibility. If an officer follows their judgment, they are taking a risk. The community and department expect officers to use judgment, but when they do, there is a danger they will be disciplined; another unnatural no-win situation engendering chronic stress. Our families know they plights of our duties as mush as we don't discuss it for we don't want them to worry. The inspirational letter of one of our own to the most powerful person on earth is outstanding and I am so proud of her |

| Posted over 2 years ago She was very articulate for her age and very correct, and I am sure she is just the same as a adult woman with her thoughts and feelings, congratualtions on the wonderful job you did raising and teaching her.
I myself besides recently pending retirement after 25+ years as a MIlitary Policeman also have a family LE background going back 3 previous generations,so I understand and wholeheartedly support everything she stated at the time, although seeing what the current administration has done to the military and its benefits, I dont see it doing anything for LE either, hopefully one day someone will realize that all that serve the community and country in all aspects of putting their life on the line daily will be more deserving and recieving of the proper benefits and assistance that they deserve and need.
Sorry for the soapbox, just seen too many stupidity come out of washington during my whole career, bad thing is that it is also my hometown. |
