A Letter My Daughter Sent To President Bush in 2001

Posted almost 5 years ago This is a letter my daughter sent to the President April 2001 She totally amazed me with her words and concern for Law Enforcement Members. Dear President Bush My name is _____ K___ and I am 10 years old. I am the daughter of a police detective and was wondering why doesn’t government recognize police as they do war veterans. I truly respect all war veterans of this country as well as all police in this country. I find it difficult that this country doesn’t provide medical services for the police in the same way it does our veterans. It would be nice for our country to respect the police the same way as it does our heros of all wars for this country. The police fight a daily war on our streets and many lose their lives or are injured in the line of duty. War is declared when our military fights for our country and nothing is ever declared when the police fight for our communities, cities and states. There are thousands of police who lost their lives fighting for the rights of our people. Mr. President please help our police departments with providing a United States Law Enforcement Veterans Organization, which can provide medical assistance for our heros in this great country. I am in no way comparing the veterans of war to the police, but I believe that the police are also veterans of war in our communities. I don’t believe that there is much difference in the types of war that the police and veterans have fought and are still fighting, but the war on our streets will never end. The police will continue to fight for our wellbeing and our rights for protection against the criminals in this country. I would be very pleased if you, Mr. President, would help our police with medical assistance in the same way as our great country does for our war heros. Mr. President, my dad is a single parent who raises me and my 14 year old brother and works many of overtime hours to pay our bills and protects our Great State of Louisiana. It would be nice if our country would show more respect for men and women that serve in our GREAT AMERICAN COUNTRY!

| Posted almost 5 years ago You should be very proud of her and I have the upmost respect for you raising your children. I was in the same situation with my father. That letter she wrote is very well spoken and she is absolutely right, police officers, fire fighters, and to all those who risk their lives in this country to protect the average day citizen are not recognized enough. I am very proud of her and don't her, but her words truly speak the kind of young lady you have raised wonderfully. God Bless. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago LaDet, you're a lucky papa. You've been blessed with a very special little girl. But it doesn't matter, does is dad? We'll still do our job. God willing, we'll get what we need while we're above ground, and we'll be surrounded with and honored by our brothers and sisters when we're planted. Now and then, even the citizens we protect will come out. Every time I attend an officer's funeral, that strikes me the most vividly. Honor is a reward in iteslf. Semper Fi. Stay safe, Sir. Scotch. This little lady will go far. She knows how to say what is in her heart. Peacock feathers should be in full fan around your heart as I know they are. Did she ever get a response from the White House? "Don’t judge me until you have walked a mile in my moccasins." -------

| Posted almost 5 years ago Of course they will never actually answer her questions. Just send her a thank you for asking. | Posted almost 5 years ago That is awesome! I agree whole heartedly that our law enforcement officers should get the same medical benefits as our active duty military members do. Blessed be the LORD, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle. Ps144:1 |

| Posted almost 5 years ago You should walk around each and everyday with your head held higher then most, you are the rightfully so proud parent of an amazing 10 year old. She has wisdom and insight far beyond her 10 years on earth. You should give yourself a well deserved pat on the back for raising this fine young American!

| Posted almost 5 years ago That's an amazing little girl. To have the respect and thoughtfulness for all that our officers do....It's amazing to see someone of her age who actually appreciates and understands all that officers have to go through. Tthe understanding of the continous battle that our officers of this great nation have to face every day. Thanks for writing that letter little Ms. King, you will be an encouragement to young people everywhere if you always keep that dedication and appreciation. |
