Posted: Today at 3:04 p.m. PROVIDENCE, R.I. — State police say they arrested a man early Tuesday whose blood alcohol level was 0.491 percent - the highest ever recorded in Rhode Island for someone who wasn't dead. Stanley Kobierowski was taken to a hospital, put in the detoxification unit and sedated, said Maj. Steven O'Donnell. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, and he was released after promising to appear Friday at a court hearing. "The person's lucky they survived," O'Donnell said. "There's no doubt he would have gotten killed or killed someone if he had continued on the route he was taking." A phone listing for Kobierowski could not be found, and he did not have a lawyer in court Tuesday. Kobierowski, 34, of North Providence, was arrested after he drove into a highway message board on Interstate 95 in Providence, O'Donnell said. After police arrived, Kobierowski had trouble getting out of the car, then grabbed it and refused to move, forcing troopers to carry him to the breakdown lane before taking him back to their barracks, O'Donnell said. A breath test showed blood alcohol readings of 0.489 percent, followed by 0.491, O'Donnell said, the highest readings state officials could remember for someone who didn't end up dead. The legal limit in Rhode Island is 0.08. A level of 0.30 is classified as stupor, 0.4 is comatose and 0.5 is considered fatal, according to the health department. This guy was fried! My highest was "only" a .29. Cowards never try, and the weak die along the way. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I had a .38 at 1530 on a Thursday a long time ago. If the guy hadn't stunk so bad of alcohol impurities and rolled a stop sign, I wouldn't have believed he was drunk. He looked teriffic on his FS tests. Don't sweat the petty things...and don't pet the sweaty things

| Posted almost 5 years ago I operated the breathalyzer for a Park policewoman one evening and the suspect blew a .40 I told her to call an ambulance and get him to the ER before he died in the station house. Some alcoholics still function even near death! He was able to take the test without a problem. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I saw that on the news. Wow what a trip that must have been. Do you think they were at their peak or on their way up or down, at the time of the test. Mine, well not mine, lol, but my arrestee blew a 0.429 in Orting, Washington. I can't remember the year but might be able to look it up. | Posted almost 5 years ago .45 in the middle of the day. This guy walked and talked like a completely sober person. His eyes looked great and I only caught a faint 'wiff' of the odor, but he was involved in a minor 1 car accident out in the middle of nowhere, which just didn't seem right so I went ahead and took him in. Ya, he was an alcoholic. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago We have a cronic offender who I have arrested countless times for DWI and public intox. He will always blow at least a .3 usually closer to a .4 and will pass every sobriety test you thow at him execpt for HGN. We finally have some decent charges on him DWI 5 and 6 are pending. In arkansas both carry a min of 2 years. WooHoo. This guy tried to run over me and two other officers a couple weeks ago when we were attempting to get him to stop. We had to jump out of the way to avaoid being hit. I charged him with aggrevated assault. The Judge reduced it to a misdemeanor. Love my judge (idiot) |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Highest for Idaho was .57/.57 off of a crash. The state called and wanted the death certificate and we told them that he was still in the hospital detoxing. When he came to jail he spent 5 days having withdrawals, re-wiring a holding cell. Kind of fun to stop in a watch. He is still kicking, one year and two months sober. That was the record for about 5 months, new one for Idaho is .75, but I don't think she is functioning. |
