I've been lurking in the security officers forum for a short time, and I guess I can at least contribute a bit.  Here goes...how many security

officers here are in Washington State?  This next question is for those of you who can answer without compromising your

companies.  What are some of the duties that your positions or posts entail?  I'm looking forward to your replies.

I am a former one...worked for CWI for over a year...still got a uniform too...

Where is CWI based at?  What other cities are they in?

I've heard of Kodiak Security Services before.  I believe they even had a website at one time.  What's it like working for them?

Does anyone know which security companies are in Moses Lake?  The reason I'm asking is because I quit the Bureau of Reclamation

security force to take a police officer position, but I'd still like to work private security on my days off.

CWI went out of business here in Spokane. I have no Idea about anywhere else, it might have been a total comany wide shut down. I don't know.

It's not, I'm in touch with one of the leading supervisors (he was in my wedding). Tri-Cities is probably going to be the next sub-sation to be shut down...they just can't compete with the competition.

I've done residential work ranging from Rainer Beach in Seattle all the way down to 96TH and Hosmer in Tacoma. I take my job as this... People don't like to live in a bad atmosphere, and it's my job to try to make their lives at home a bit more comfortable and safe.

In order to do this, I check with everyone who seems to be lurking around outside, I ID everyone I can, and try to catch people off guard when they're commiting various crimes on my properties. Small Misdemeanors, I usually tell them to go home, PD usually won't book someone on public drinking for example. They'd likely make them dump it all out, which is what I do. The company I work for is very proactive, and as long as you follow the law, you'll be fine. Because we never bother the Police unless it's a no BS call, we usually have a good repore and response time from them.

As for drug use, most times when I catch kids smoking weed I usually give them the "You know better" speach while making them destroy it. If I catch them a second time though... I'll make as big a stink about it that I can. Then you have the ones who are not just smoking, you've got the one guy with a big ziploc bag with lots of little ones in it. I had this one guy see me as I was walking up and he decided to run out the back door. He was headed towards a very pointy fence and he threw his dope in some bushes as he went by it. Funny thing is, his dope stayed on top of the bush. Anyhow, the kid tries to jump the fence but got his belt caught and he was stuck hanging up side down. My partner and I thought it was pretty funny, and so did Seattle PD when they got there. And I think I got off topic a bit, but the long short, my company just does legal proactive work.

I have since learned that CWI was bought out by Puget Sound Security and that's why they closed the Spokane office (which was based out of a self storage place <lol>).

 Wow I better not be caught off guard there!!  But at least I know I can commit small misdemeanors and be cool with it.  Good thing for his highly skilled discretion.  

I just started working for Whatcom security Agency in Shnohomish county. I thought security would be a great place to get some experience to become a LEO. I am also going to ITT-TECH for criminal justice. Any advice from those that went from security to police work?

Update:  I'm in the Spokane area for now.  What's the security experience like in Spokane?

Yeah I'm still with Kodiak. Jobs in the area are a bit scarce as they apparently are all over. As for the situation here while on duty, same old story you are usually bored silly about 90% of the time as nervous as hell the remaining 10%. As we all in the industry know excitement breeds paperwork <lol>.

I hear what you're saying about security jobs being scarce.  I called over twenty security companies in the Spokane area and only two were

hiring.  Regarding the companies that are hiring, none of them want to work around my full-time schedule.

I work for Kodiak Security in Spokane. bu55c, you can probably guess who I am. I work as an armed mobile patrol officer. Got 5 yrs total experience, pls military background. I enjoy the work, but the pay sucks. Pay rates are based on the amount of training you have, regardless of experience, but the spread is between $8.67 ph and $10.00 ph. A fully trained, armed officer that supplies his own weapon can get $11.00 ph. On top of poor pay, our company makes the individual officer pay for his own training and licences. I usually end up shelling out $300-350 a year for training, quals and recerts.

FedSec, I've looked at Lambert, but haven't considered them. I see their patrol cars on rare occasion. Do they have any openings that can do me better?

I've heard rumor that State Protective pays well. I'm also considering switching to Phoenix too, heard they have great benefits.

wow... batman you may want to find a new security gig.. i work as an unarmed and make more then 11 an hour... i wouldnt work armed for less then $15 an hour if i cant find an other job...

From what I've seen, our counterparts in the Seattle area make more per hour on average than we do in Spokane.  I work as an armed

security officer and I make around $11.00 per hour.  I think finding an armed security position in Spokane that pays $15.00 per hour or

more is alot easier said than done.  Hey!  If you know of any part-time security positions in Spokane that pay that much, put in a good word

for me, bro!
