Ruger P90??

Posted over 2 years ago I'm a complete novice, and my father in law has been active for years. He is adamant about taking me out to get a Ruger P90. I've practiced with my buddy's Glock 27, which I like. I've never even heard of Ruger? If he's a big Ruger-guy, is there another model worth checking out? |

| Posted over 2 years ago Ruger autos make some of the very best boat anchors I have ever used! HK makes some great guns, and the new S&W M&P is excellent, as well. "You can't lead from behind" Gen'l James Longstreet, CSA |

| Posted over 2 years ago Leave the Ruger alone. Check out the new S&W M&P in 45 or the Sig P220. If you like the 1911 style, go with the Sig GSR or the Kimber. The cheapest of the ones I mentioned will be the S&W. I carry one in 40, but my next purchase will be the 45. The S&W also has a life time warranty. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Guess I'll be in the minority here. I've had a Ruger P89 for years and I have not had any problems. The weapon is very reliable, easy to maintain, and has yet to jam. Glock, Sig, and H&K all make excellent weapons and they are very popular for one reason or another. I have limited exposure to Kimber weapons, so I can't comment on them. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Everyone has compliments and complaints. decide your caliber and barrel length by what its going to be used for. Then go out and coon finger every pistol that matches your desired caliber/length/magazine capacity. Stick with name brands and you should be all right. So to throw another monkey wrench in, My daily duty weapon is *drumroll* ~ Kimber TLE II ~ Alternate is Colt's Combat Commander, Off duty Glock 19. Ps. I will agree that I've seen/heard alot of problems with ruger auto pistols. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Dont get me wrong I have had a glock 22 for going on 10 years and have put I dont know how many of thousands of rounds through it. I never had a jam until I got a faulty magazine for it. Still to this day I enjoy fireing it but nothing is nicer then the feel of a stainless steel kimber |

I guess the real test would be, if all of the sudden some bureaucrat cut a deal to force officers to use a Ruger on duty, would it just be a pain, or would guys go down swinging? |

| Posted over 2 years ago Oh no, a hate thread, gotta get into the fray. Glock is to the gun world what IBM was to the typewriter world. It isn't any better, just got it's foot in the door with government contracts and low price offers to large departments. Not what I would base my decision on. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against glock other than the way it feels in my hand, which for me is not a good fit. I would put my P95s, both 9mm, and my P94 .40 up against any gun on any range in any situation or condition. I have never had a problem with any Ruger, any style or calibre. With that said, It may be hard to believe I'm partial to S&W, but I am. Mostly wheel guns but then I'm an old codge who cut his teeth on a model 10 4" bull barrel. You gotta shoot em and shoot em alot before making your choice. It has to perform for you the way you want it to and it has to fit. If you buy a gun just because its a certain make and it doesn't fit, you'll just die with a good gun. Excuse me if I ruffle a few feathers here but, If you buy a weapon based only on a cult following for the brand, You are an idiot, and probably a dead or injured one. I love my Rugers, just like anyone else loves their Glocks or Kimbers, but I did not buy them nor carry them because they were Rugers, I bought them after putting them up against some stiff competition, In my own hands. For me, they were the best fit. Also remember that the gun has to feel right and perform properly in both hands. It wouldn't do anygood to have a gun you are proficient with right handed but couldn't operated lefty. Most of the major brands are neck to neck in quality. All have their own quirks and problems that you learn to compensate for. It all boils down to which one fits you and your situation the best. OK guys, now you can be mad cause the Murf called everybody cultists and Idiots. Go ahead, my turn to be hated anyway. LOL..Stay Safe 'Tis better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

| Posted over 2 years ago Buy the best you can afford, or save longer and something better. Not all rugers are bad just the ones that are crap! 95% of them! The trigger on the ones I shot were horrible. Glock, Kimber, or Sig, I even like Walther. |

| Posted over 2 years ago jbmdivsvs said: No hatin' here, everybody is entitled to their opinion. If the Ruger semiautos work for you, then by all means stick with 'em. I love all guns...some just get a bit more lovin' than others. I have been working in, or associated with, the firearms industry since I was 14 years old. During that time I have had the honor and priviledge of shooting ALOT of firearms, some are obviously better than others. Ergonomics aside and speaking only of function, I have never seen a Ruger semiautomatic handgun be able to stand up to the demands that are commonly associated with Mil/LE. I have seen everything from constant malfunctions to premature parts breakage. I'm not saying that ALL Ruger semiautos are going to crap out, but the one's that I have seen greatly outnumber the one's that I've seen function flawlessly. If I'm going to carry a weapon that is responsible for protecting my life and the lives of those around me, I WILL NOT consider one that I have seen fail more often than not. I wouldn't mind owning one for plinking at the range, but I won't bet my life on one. Like I said...not hatin', just relaying some personal experience. | Posted over 2 years ago Thanks GTS, was afraid I was going to join some bad ranks there. I agree there are tougher weapons, but like I said, it has to fit you AND your situation. My Rugers have never been subjected to what my M-1911s were and I don't think they could hold up to that kind of abuse, but for what I use them for they are fine. I quit counting at 2000 rounds through each and I only had 2 malfunctions, both my fault. One, you don't put 350 rounds through on factory oil. Slide stuck, slapped it, and off I went. The other was being too limp wristed on the first few range days with my .40. Didn't adjust my hold to the stiffer recoil spring tension. Live and learn. Better to learn on the range, so you can live. No matter what you buy or carry, poor maintnance will turn any of them into junk. Being a, or having been, unit armorer for years in the Army, I saw well maintained weapons on their last leg perform perfectly and beautiful perfect weapons that were not maintained properly that couldn't get 3 rounds off without some kind of malfunction. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. My Dad, being an avid sportsman, brought me up with a love and respect of all guns. My biggest pet pieve is someone who carries, but can't or won't maintain their weapons as it should be. So no matter what you carry, or can afford to carry, If you don't maintain it, clean, oil, replace worn parts, you may as well just carry a pocket of rocks. Stay Safe 'Tis better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
